JOB SUMMARY
Daily oversight of all JKV beauty salons, including three multi-stylist shops, two VCC single-stylist shops and two stations in Valley View Special Care. Responsible for supervision of staff, salon product selection and purchasing, customer satisfaction, salon appearance and salon promotion. Works with director to market salons and build shop revenues. Support the other Resident Life activity initiatives through serving as a member of the team to ensure event success. Supportive of the Village’s mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes training as required by policy.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Supervises salon staff. Trains, orients, schedules, prepares payroll and coaches stylists to increase productivity through setting weekly, monthly and quarterly sales goals. Shares Village goals, mission and ongoing Village happenings.
• Serves as liaison between customers, stylists and massage therapist. Assures that all customer service issues are resolved.
• Promotes and markets salons through promotions as well as continuously monitors and analyzes sales s.
• Implements and ensures regular, frequent resident and associate satisfaction surveys are completed.
• Ensures all supplies are kept stocked, and orders cost efficiently throughout four shops.
• Ensures systems are in place to maintain a clean, attractive salon. Maintains all regulatory requirements (state licensing) and assures safety procedures are in place and followed.
• Ensures equipment is in good and safe working order, schedules maintenance as necessary.
• Fills in as needed for stylists who need time off for various reasons in order to accommodate residents who are unable to come at a different time. No commission will be paid since this is a leadership function of customer satisfaction and keeping the salons running smoothly.
• Responsible for annual budgeting and regular oversight of financials.
• Support all Resident Life initiatives and contribute to the overall leadership of the Resident Life department.
• Shampoos, styles, cuts, colors, perms residents and associates of John Knox Village.
• Oversight of massage therapy services.
• May trim facial hair.
• Open and close salon.
• Keep a record of service and authorization.
• Inventory stock and order supplies as necessary.
• May perform manicures and pedicures.
• Schedules appointments with residents and associates of John Knox Village.
• Assist clients in and out of chair for service.
• Sweeps and cleans work station after residents and associates of John Knox Village.
• Listens to and has compassion for residents, family members and associates of John Knox Village.
• Provides own scissors, rollers, clips and salon tools.
• Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
• Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
• Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.

Education:

• High school education or general education degree (GED) required.

Licenses/Certifications:

• Current Cosmetologist license is required.

Knowledge and Skills (required unless otherwise noted):

• Minimum of 3 years of salon supervision experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of stylist experience.
• Intermediate level keyboarding skills required.
• Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office pc applications, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
• Intermediate level knowledge of computerized billing software (such as Infogenesis) preferred.
• Previous experience working with elderly and doing sets on hair preferred.
• Basic experience using a cash register (computerized) and cash handling knowledge (i.e., balancing, closing)
• Advanced level skill in using hair care equipment and chemicals.
• Strong interpersonal, teamwork and customer service skills.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write s, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
