As we enter a phase of rapid commercialisation and growth, we are now seeking a talented data scientist to help lead and deliver a variety of leading-edge software technology and data-led projects.

What you will be doing

JNCTION’s data scientists are specialists that deliver advanced analytics solutions within the rail industry – you will be working with a variety of different and complex data sets to uncover insights and communicate these to our clients.

You’ll be working with a wider variety of technologies to process and analyse datasets, creating sophisticated data models and data visualisations, working closely with our technical leadership team.

At JNCTION we understand that your skills will depend on the stage at which you join JNCTION in your career and your background. We will help you learn any new skills and programming languages required, all we look for is a strong desire to learn and develop.

An understanding of the rail industry is also beneficial but again can be developed as part of the role. An interest and/or knowledge of the UK rail network and the associated data feeds are not essential but would form a large part of the day-to-day role. You will be working on new innovative projects, so the ability to learn quickly and work with large, complicated datasets is required.

Who we’re looking for

You’ll ideally have at least 1 year’s relevant experience working in a data analytics or data science role. If this experience is within rail, then even better! But don’t worry if not, an interest in learning the various intricacies of the rail industry and its data is all that’s needed.

You’ll need to bring an intellectual rigour, practical problem-solving skills and an ability to think on your feet – we work on a huge variety of problems and therefore can never be certain how one day will pan out!

As a small, but rapidly expanding firm, you’ll need to enjoy working in small teams with a wide range of skills and experience and be excited about the opportunity to help build the company over the coming years, with the potential to grow into a senior leadership role over the coming years.

You’ll have excellent communication and organisational skills and won’t be afraid to say when you do not understand something and need help – we work closely as a team and are keen to help each other learn.

Finally, you will also need to be fluent in English and hold a valid UK work visa.

The salary for the role varies depending on experience, however the expected salary range is between £40,000 to £55,000 per annum.

You’ll work closely with our experienced Head of Software who will provide career guidance and technical mentorship to you as part of the role.
