Jisc Hiring for Software Developer Job at Remote Full Time

Jisc is further expanding our Software Development Group so we are looking for experienced Software developers to join us at an exciting period of growth!

Salary: From £30,000 to £42,000 per annum depending on experience (when working full time max 35 hours per week)

Contract: Permanent

Location: Hybrid – office based with flexibility to work from home or at any of our hubs – London, Bristol, Manchester and Harwell

At the heart of our Software Development Group, (SDG) we have over a dozen development teams delivering a variety of valuable and impactful products.

We’ll try to match you up with a team that gives you the best onboarding experience and a launchpad to spring forward in your career with us.

We believe in developing great software whilst also developing ourselves and others along the way. We’re always looking for ways to improve the way we work in SDG – like supporting developer swaps between teams to share skills, gain new experience and to keep careers fresh and interesting.

We also like to get together as a group of developers every fortnight for an online meet up, led in rotation by one of our varied and diverse development teams. It’s a simple, informal format with constructive feedback, discussion and audience participation encouraged. Teams share the problems they’ve been working on, ask for advice and feedback, explore new challenges and share the lessons they’ve learned.

About you:

We are looking for: (depending on experience)

• A willingness and passion for learning new technology as required
• Proactive and highly organised
• Experience with mentoring and leadership
• An ability to explore technology solutions across the technology stack
• Ability to provide constructive feedback in the form of code reviews
• Advanced experience and knowledge in JavaScript/TypeScript and React
• Experienced in stakeholder expectation management with the ability to push back when appropriate rather than overpromise
• Knowledge of WCAG and accessibility
• Experience with AWS, Docker and TDD would be a bonus

About the role:

As a software developer you will work closely with the different product families in Jisc to create products that meet their vision and the users’ requirements.

Associate level key responsibilities / achievement objectives:

• Be able to work independently from a specification/ticket to produce code for release
• Review code of Junior developers and provide detailed feedback
• Be able to create a REST API
• Demonstrate application features to users, either face to face, or remotely
• Write tests for code where appropriate, as close to TDD as possible
• Know the different between relational database and document databases.
• Experience writing SQL

Mid-level developer key responsibilities / achievement objectives:

• Lead pair programming sessions
• Mentor Junior/Early Careers and Associate developers
• Take ownership for complex ticket work
• Responsible for architecture designs with an understanding of more advanced AWS concepts
• Take responsibility for deployments and pipelines for projects
• Work closely with product owners and the product team on new features and workshops
• A good understanding of SQL and how to write performant queries (without the use of an ORM)

Depending on your experience we will support your development and progress within the team.
