Teachers provide specialized educational programming to some of our most academically and mentally challenged students. Teachers have a significantly reduced classroom size so they can meet the needs of each individual.

Pay: BA/BS $41,000 to $49,978/year

M.A. $44,000 – $53,707/year

Responsibilities:

Position Purpose:

• Prepares lessons in advance for all assigned classes: provides written lesson plans to the principal upon request.

• Maintains classroom management techniques to insure the safety and security of each student.

• Contributes on a consistent basis to positive team spirit.

• Collaborates/communicates effectively and consistently with all members of Jefferson Hills’ multidisciplinary team on a regular basis and all outside agencies.

• Coordinates and assists regular education teachers with modification of curriculum to meet remedial/enrichment needs of students.

• Demonstrates effective use of Teaching Assistant in the classroom, with student behavioral and teacher support needs.

• Works with Education Coordinator to implement IEP process.

• Attends IEP meetings, completes testing, and participates in the IEP process in conjunction with states and federal requirements.

• Communicates IEP & Transition goals and objectives with regular education teachers and other education staff, Treatment Coordinator, unit staff and tracks progress.

• Keeps accurate and timely students records, completes Monthly Academic Progress Reports and Discharge Summaries within prescribed time lines.

• Attends &/or gives input to all Case Conferences for students on assigned caseload.

• Maintains a professional relationship with parents and guardians of the students.

• Attends and actively participates in all teacher meeting and in-services as scheduled.

• Maintains awareness and compliance with all policies and procedures of Jefferson Hills and with applicable governing agencies.

• Participates in on-going professional growth classes, in-services, workshops and training to increase professional knowledge and proficiency. Services collaboratively and in coordination with others.

• Refrains from dual relationships with residents and their families as defined by Jefferson Hills.

• Ability and strength to handle all teaching duties. Must meet the Jefferson Hills physical requirements.

• Maintains a culturally and socioeconomically sensitive environment for children/youth.

• Successfully completes all required trainings in a timely manner.

• Follows and enforces all Jefferson Hills’ Policies and Procedures, including but not limited to confidentiality, sexual harassment/harassment, dual relationships, physical and sexual abuse reporting, Corporate Compliance and Code of Ethics.

• Must be willing and able to perform physical restraints with clients using required CPI techniques.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, & Experience:

• B.A. level and Colorado Department of Education license endorsed in Special Education Generalist or valid TTE in Special Education.

• Must be able to submit a valid driver’s license and DMV driving record within 14 business days of hire to the human resources department.

• Current Colorado State Teaching License with Special Education Endorsement or subject area Secondary Education Endorsement with TTE in Special Education in Moderate/Affective Needs.

• Experience working with students with Asperger’s Syndrome preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to modify curriculum to meet diverse needs.

• Experience with the IEP process. Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

• Experience and demonstrated ability with individual academic testing and interpretation including, but not limited to Woodcock-Johnson III, GORT, Criterion Reading and Mathematics Assessment, Individualized Reading Inventories and various vocational Testing instruments.
