Position Description:
Full-time. The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for the management and distribution of student financial aid for all college sites, and the delivery of superior service to college financial aid applicants and their families, professional colleagues and external contacts and agencies. This person provides counseling, administrative, and managerial support in the day-to-day operation of the financial aid office and its programs.
Essential Functions:
Strategic planning for the organization and administration of financial aid functions, with a focus on the use of financial aid resources as tools for recruiting and retaining students.
Assuring institutional compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies including oversight of all Federal Title IV and state college aid programs.
Program and/or policy interpretation, updating of written guidelines (Policy and Procedures), and the implementation of constructive changes for all financial aid programs.
Maintains a comprehensive and proficient knowledge of all federal and state regulations that govern the programs administered by the Financial Aid Office. Attends professional workshops and conferences.
Identifying and implementing technology to support the processing of aid.
Developing and overseeing office budgets, supervising/evaluating financial aid staff, and assessing/planning for JCC financial aid functional work.
Supervises, evaluates and coordinates the work of staff positions within the financial aid offices at all sites and monitors workflows to improve efficiency and services to students.
Meeting with students and parents to assist them with application preparation, questions, advisement, and problem solving.
Developing and conducting financial aid presentations and representing financial aid at institutional events.
Assuring maintenance of appropriate student financial aid records.
Overall management of institutional scholarship programs, in collaboration with the JCC Foundation.
Complete satisfactory academic progress and related issues for major scholarship programs, advising students on withdrawal and assist with waivers, professional judgment applications, and dependency override requests.
Primary responsibility for review of federal student aid dataload and information processing
Oversight of institutional verification process and procedures.
Determination of scholarship award recipients.
Work with the U.S. Department of Education, New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, Central Processing System, and outside agencies, and financial aid professionals at other colleges to resolve problem issues and ensure the effectiveness of associated programs.
Other Duties:
Act as a resource for campus faculty and staff at all sites. Provide regular and ongoing training to financial aid staff, college counselors, and other college personnel who work with the financial aid programs.
Act as a resource for all federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs to college constituents including high school counselors, students, and parents through aid advisement, counseling, problem solving, and intercession when necessary.
Conduct financial aid workshops, programs, and presentations for college and local community events (i.e. high schools, civic and professional organizations).
Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor’s degree (or higher). Five years administrative experience, including staff supervision. This person must exhibit strong leadership and management qualities; organizational skills; written and oral communication skills; in-depth knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs; and strong interpersonal skills to work closely with students/parents, the public, and the college community. Working knowledge with computer packages including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management systems required. This position will be eligible for periodic remote work.
Preferred: Master’s degree.
Additional Information:
Salary: $66,871 – $89,158, commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus excellent benefits package.
