Position Summary
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing support for a wide variety of activities of human resources for JHS employees and customers for one or more assigned facility or program areas. The main responsibility of HR generalist is to advise managers, supervisors, or administrators in all HR practices, to provide information to employees about regulations, contract language, and policies, and to provide general support in the areas of employee relations, labor relations, talent acquisition, and administration of compensation and benefits. This position is significantly involved in determining pay grades and preparing performance evaluations. This position acts in a confidential capacity to assist department management and s to department management.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provides consultative and systems support in all areas of Human Resources including Employment, HRIS, Compensation, Benefits, Labor Relations, Employee Health Services, Employee Assistance program and Personnel Records. Serves as a resource to assigned facility management, supervisors, employees and applicants on Recruitment Services operations/practices in accordance with administrative/division/departmental policies, Personnel Rules and applicable state and federal laws. Analyzes requests for job audits, performs analyses of new positions and requests for reclassifications of existing positions, and recommends pay grade assignments for approval. Frequently, assists with writing criteria based job descriptions and performance evaluations; establishes and maintains a schedule to review and update job descriptions and performance evaluations for assigned area(s). Maintains a working set of job specifications, job descriptions, and performance evaluations for assigned area(s) which are used to formulate positions and proposals in collective bargaining. Conducts analyses and constructs valid selections. Evaluates and recommends applicants for interviews. Analyzes employee complaints and ensures accurate and timely documentation of concerns or issues. Facilitates actions to resolve the employee issues and escalates to appropriate management team. Advises on proper method of submitting Personnel Actions. Strategizes with Employment and Personnel Records regarding rates of pay. Assists employees with benefits related issues/problems and responds to employee inquiries regarding employee benefits. Assists with annual open enrollment for health and welfare plans in assigned area(s). Assists in other areas of the Human Resources Division as required, completing special projects and insuring appropriate service to customers. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in related field is required
Experience
Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
License/Certification
Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.
Knowledge/Skill/Abilities
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.
Physical Demands
Job function is sedentary in nature and requires sitting for extended periods of time. Function may require frequent standing or walking. Must be able to lift or carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Jobs in this group are required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: extended use of computers, preparing and analyzing data and analytics, and other components of a typical office environment. Work Environment
Jobs in this group are required to function in a fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent and stressful situations. Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public. Function is subject to inside environmental conditions, with occasional outdoor exposures. Possible exposure to various environments such as: communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a hospital and medical office environment. May wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves or a mask when exposed to hospital environment outside of office.
