As an underwriter for our Workers Compensation or Special Risk divisions, you will be responsible for reviewing, appraising and accepting or declining applications for workers’ compensation insurance. If you enjoy developing relationships, researching information and taking some risks, then being an Underwriter for our company is definitely for you.

• An Underwriter uses knowledge and independent judgement to determine the eligibility of risks when compared to guidelines of programs available
• Communicates regularly with agents via telephone, email and agency visits
• Examines and evaluates documents such as applications forms, inspection and loss control reports, product brochures, financial reports to determine degree of risk and acceptability of application for insurance.
• Evaluates the experience of a risk against the class of business under review.
• Evaluates loss potential due to catastrophe, severity, and/or frequency.
• Prepares quotation for agents.
• Accepts and binds insurance within underwriting authority.
• Assists agents with comments or questions about applications.
• Communicates effectively (orally in writing or in person) with agents to obtain or clarify information.
• Reviews and processes requests for cancellation, endorsement, etc. Reviews policies for renewal consideration.
• Requests additional documentation necessary for the processing of an application, endorsement or cancellation.
• Routinely demonstrates strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• Exhibits strong analytical skills with an attention to detail.
• Meets expectations for attendance and punctuality. Presents a professional appearance.’
