This is a unique role that provides exciting opportunities to work alongside colleagues across our Corporate Accountancy department with LB Islington.
Finance Officer post (Career Break Cover)
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Finance Officer post (career break cover) within the Corporate Accountancy Team. The successful candidates will be part of a forward thinking, dynamic team, which is flexibly organised around key themes in order to support the delivery of a comprehensive and effective finance service to the Council.
The post holder will primarily provide financial support to senior finance managers. Duties will include bank reconciliations and the processing of financial transactions, as well as providing general support to the team.
Successful candidates will be expected to have excellent numeracy and IT skills, be self-motivated, and to work flexibly and on their own initiative whilst demonstrating high levels of accuracy and attention to detail. They will have strong written and communication skills and an ability to deal promptly and efficiently with queries.

To support the development, maintenance and review of budget monitoring, control,
reconciliation and reporting in conjunction with Core senior staff and operational
managers and to contribute to the continuous improvement of departmental systems
in line with financial best practice as required by the Senior Finance Manager/Finance
Manager.
2. To process journals and compile supporting documentation required.
3. To assist with the efficient and timely completion of specific tasks within the annual
closing of accounts process, including the preparation and submission of grant claims
and the on-going maintenance, reconciliation and review of the accounts for specific
areas of responsibility.
4. To contribute to reviews in line with the Council’s policies and procedures, in order to
achieve value for money.
5. To assist with the efficient preparation and production of timely and accurate routine
and ad-hoc management information, in relation to all aspects of the finance function,
as required by the Strategic Finance Managers and budget holders in accordance
with core team processes and systems.
6. To contribute to the ongoing review of corporate and departmental systems and
procedures as requested by the Senior Finance Manager/Finance Manager.
7. To be responsible for keeping up to date with accounting and other relevant
legislation, regulations, standards, service developments and initiatives and the
Council’s policies and procedures.
8. To undertake other duties commensurate to the grade of the post.

1. To assist with reviewing and improving the development of local commitment monitoring
financial and activity systems used by operational managers to ensure consistency, effective
reconciliation and financial best practice.
2. To effectively liaise with the relevant stakeholders in relation to timely and accurate budget
monitoring, control and reconciliation.
Additional duties at grade Sc6
1. To work effectively with the Finance Department, external organisations and customers, to
ensure appropriate procedures and processes for setting, monitoring and reviewing the
financial arrangements.
2. To assist with liaising with Government departments and statutory agencies, to maximise
income due to the Council.
3. To use and assist others in the use of information technology systems to carry out duties in
the most efficient and effective manner.
