The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Virtual School for Children in Care is offering an exciting opportunity for an Education Officer. This post is to cover maternity leave and is being offered on a Fixed Term Contract for one year.
This is a key role which works to promote and improve the educational attainment, attendance and engagement of our children in care on the Isle of Wight. The post holder will need to work collaboratively with schools, social workers and foster carers to ensure every child has high-quality educational provision to meet their needs and an up-to-date Personal Education Plan to support their progress. The post holder has, with others, the responsibility for achieving targets set by the Virtual School and Children’s Services around the education and outcomes of children in care.
The Virtual School Education Officer will report directly to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Virtual School Headteacher. The post holder will primarily work on the Isle of Wight though agile working may be possible.

This role falls within the strategic partnership between the Isle of Wight Council and Hampshire County Council. The employer will be the Isle of Wight Council and employment is on Isle of Wight terms and conditions. Hampshire County Council has delivered, on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, all of its children’s services functions and will continue to do so until 2023. The original five-year partnership arrangement under direction of the Secretary of State finished in 2018 but has been extended voluntarily by both local authorities for a further five years.
The management reporting line for this role is ultimately through Hampshire County Council Children’s Services Director/Assistant Director and managers who take operational responsibility for children’s services.
