Island Health Hiring for Supervisor – Echocardiography at Victoria, BC Full Time

Job Description:

Reports to the Manager, Heart Health. Coordinates the activities within the Echocardiography Laboratory (Echo Labs) of the Heart Health Program by supervising and providing work direction to assigned personnel. Prepares performance appraisals, monitors quality control activities to ensure that departmental policies and procedures are adhered to, and reviews, develops, and implements administrative and clinical policies and procedures for the Echo Lab under the direction of the Manager, Echocardiography and/or Medical Lead.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience

Certified by Sonography Canada (CRCS) and/or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (RDCS) with 1 year recent echocardiography scanning experience. Must be a graduate of a recognized diploma training program in Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography. Successful completion of management courses plus four years’ recent related experience including 2 years in Echocardiography, and two years of recent supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Basic Life Support Certificate (BLSC), Level C.

Skills And Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for Echocardiographers established by Sonography Canada and/or ARDMS and/or other relevant national professional associations.

Demonstrated knowledge of the current theories, technologies and practices in Echocardiography.

Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based practice.

Demonstrated knowledge of cardiovascular disease processes, and complications.

Demonstrated knowledge of organization policies, procedures and standards of care, including practice of safe work procedures with modality equipment.

Demonstrated knowledge of research process and methodology.

Demonstrated knowledge of PACS/ Information Systems, i.e. digital imaging, image archiving and retrieval and relevant computer programs and databases.

Demonstrated skill in modality specific techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies.

Demonstrated skill and proficiency in all routines and equipment relevant to the assigned area in Echocardiography.

Demonstrated computer skills.

Demonstrated ability to function as an effective leader, motivator, facilitator and team member.

Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate, facilitate, coach and mentor staff.

Demonstrated ability to develop policy and procedure protocols and manuals.

Demonstrated ability to communicate (orally and in writing) and deal effectively with clients and their families, co-workers, physicians, other health care staff and staff of external agencies including conflict resolution.

Demonstrated ability to facilitate change.

Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.

Demonstrated ability to perform and track ultrasound imaging quality assurance and initiate, coordinate and monitor quality improvement initiatives.

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and perform basic changes to ultrasound equipment system software settings and echo image management system and imaging components.

Demonstrated ability to promote the Echocardiography Lab and the profession through liaison with outside agencies including sonographer training programs, national and provincial societies, Provincial Health Authorities, other hospitals and regions.

Demonstrated ability to coordinate student/physician training.

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
