Title: Student Learning Support Officer

Location: Exeter, with occasional visits to other IMC College locations as required

Hours: Full Time, 5 days per week. (Monday to Friday)

Approximately one Saturday every 4 – 6 weeks will be required on a Rota basis in lieu of a weekday. Some evening and weekend work will be required to support college events for which time off in lieu will be accrued.

Duration: Permanent

Salary: £28,143 – £35,609

Key Responsibilities

This post is student-facing, a point of contact and support for all enrolled students in relation to their learning process and therefore in supporting teaching staff in the provision of an excellent student experience.

You will support students throughout their academic journey, from induction through to course end, paying close attention to their transition into, through and out of study, encouraging them to be independent, successful learners and professionals.

The Student Learning Support Officer helps to support successful student progression, retention, qualification completion and student satisfaction, providing additional study, pastoral and wellbeing support to students to assist with their engagement and building resilience, whilst balancing the demands of professional training and other commitments.

Please note, this is an academic role that does not act as a counsellor or medical advisor.

The role includes:

• Scaffold enrolled students through their learning journey by providing a programme of study and assessment skills training and support.

• Facilitate the ADC viva processes as directed by the Programmes Lead in relation to assessment of folders.

• Support and mentor students with pastoral/well-being and learning needs to increase retention, attainment and engagement, ensuring that support plans are created and maintained, identifying reasonable adjustments if required.

• Promote inclusivity and diversity in student-facing contact across the College to increase retention, attainment and engagement, identifying reasonable adjustments if required.

• Promote behaviours which provide support as well as develop employable skills, such as planning, organisation, building resilience, etc.

• Manage student concerns and complaints at the informal level, and support tutors and students with issues leading to resolution, or escalating as appropriate via College processes.

• With Programme Leads, Administrative team, and the College Director, streamline and develop processes for promoting Universal Design for Learning, as well as identifying at-risk students and prioritising those who require immediate guidance and support, providing interventions/ signposting to appropriate health, support and welfare authorities.

• Maintain appropriate and accurate records of contacts, queries, issues, and responses provided, using the CRM database and student files, taking responsibility to hold, store and delete data according to GDPR principles and practices.

• Support, train, and manage the role of student representatives on course committees.

• Support activities and engagement events (such as Forge, the ‘students-as-partners’ IMC initiative) which create a positive student community, enhance learner experience, and the reputation of IMC.

• Maintain confidentiality and privacy about all student and College matters at all times, whilst being empathetic and discreet in respect to personal data and information.

General

The role-holder will:

• Participate actively and flexibly in a range of College-wide activities, such as duty rotas, enrolment and marketing events and staff and student activities.

• Respond to and follow up communications quickly and professionally.

• Meet deadlines reliably and work to a high standard.

• Maintain excellent attention to detail.

• Take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and of other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions.

• Be aware of and comply with College requirements that are relevant to the post.

• Participate in team training and development to update skills and knowledge.

• Undertake such additional duties or projects as the Head of Administrative Services may determine from time to time, after consultation with the postholder.
