The Finance team is looking to fill the role of Plant Controller in their Leominster, Massachusetts facility to contribute their knowledge and experience to help formalize and align processes within the site. The Controller will lead the site finance team and have full P&L, Balance Sheet, and cash responsibilities. The Controller is expected to have a detailed knowledge of all matters financially related to their team and the site, particularly around key value generating activities and risk exposures. The Controller will be expected to take a leadership role on site creating an opportunity for an ambitious and dynamic individual with drive, determination, and the desire to work in a highly commercial and growth-focused manufacturing environment.

The Leominster site is part of the Environmental, Returnable and Industrial Solutions (ERIS) Division of IPL and one of the primary manufacturing sites for IPL’s Large Format and Retail Packaging (LF&R) business in the United States. LF&R is a growing segment, with annual revenue of approximately $200m and significant growth potential.

Position Title: Plant Controller
Location: Leominster, Massachusetts

The successful candidate will be:

• Lead the monthly financial close process with a continuous improvement approach focused on accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and load balancing across the team.
• Manage day to day general accounting functions and processes, including monthly account reconciliations.
• Responsible for the preparation of the monthly statements and reports and the financial integrity and timeliness of the information reported to Divisional and Group Management.
• Responsible for managing and maintaining the required high level of effective controls including coordinating the internal and external audits of the business to ensure compliance with the Group internal control policies and quarterly control submissions.
• Assess opportunities to improve existing systems including identifying areas of efficiency and control improvement.
• Manage cash process including banking/treasury, cash forecasting and working capital management and improvements.
• Manage team to ensure all required tax returns and payments are processed in a timely manner.
• Execute ad hoc projects as needed.
• Investigate, explain, and support variance analysis of Material and Gross Profit margins: direct and indirect labour usage, material usage and purchase price variances and, inventory consumption.
• Lead financial support of monthly cycle counts and physical counts.
• Responsible for ensuring accurate costing standards are maintained and kept current in all systems.
• Identify cost improvement and performance measures and drive accuracy and efficiency in all areas of the operations.

Essential experience and skills:

• CPA or bachelor’s degree in accounting required
• A proven Financial Controller with an excellent record of financial and operational achievement in driving accuracy, efficiency, and controls.
• Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and accounting software.
• Solid knowledge and experience with accounting regulations.
• Experience working in a multi-site or multi business unit structure, preferably in a SOX environment.
• Experience in a manufacturing business with hands on experience in cost accounting and analysis required.
• Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to quickly command the confidence and respect of the management team.
• 7-10+ years post-qualification experience of relevant management and finance experience, ideally in the manufacturing sector and at least 2-3 years in a prior Controller or similar role.
