Position description

The Assistant Financial Business Partner supports the lead Financial Business Partner (Executive Level 1) with providing day to day streamlined and tailored financial management support to a range of Business Groups across the organisation and has access to a range of stakeholders at all levels.

The Assistant Financial Business Partner has a considerable degree of independence and must possess sound decision-making skills. The ability to establish and maintain strong trusted networks with colleagues and stakeholders, including collaboratively delivering high quality financial services is critical for this role.

Some of the Key purposes of the role would be –

• accountable for the provision of strategic and operational financial advice across the full range of CFO activities to Executive leaders and senior managers across the organisation. This includes in partnership with the EL1 Financial Business Partner providing timely, accurate and relevant financial and budget management advice
• as led by the EL1 Financial Business partner, support with the development and delivery of assigned Business Group(s) budget and ASL resourcing allocations via IP Australia’s internal budget processes
• be a supporting central finance interface point for the organisation to the CFO domain
• contribute to and conduct financial analysis to support improved business outcomes, accountability and to identify financial risks and business opportunities as they arise within assigned Business Groups and across IP Australia.

Position Duties

A few of the role responsibilities may include –

• preparation and management of assigned Business Group(s) annual budget and staffing allocations
• assist the lead Financial Business Partner with providing expert financial advice to the CFO, Senior Executives and Senior Managers on financial reporting, budget control, budget development, forecasting and financial planning activities. This also includes building and maintaining Microsoft Excel models relating to staffing and budget modelling
• support the coordination and respond to requests for financial data and reports from a range of internal and external stakeholders both of financial and non-financial backgrounds
• undertake ongoing maintenance and reflect up to date financial information in IP Australia’s Financial Management Information System (FMIS), including processing month-end accruals.

To be successful in this role it is desirable to have:

• tertiary qualifications in accounting full membership as a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) or as a Chartered Accountant (CA) or working towards or ability to achieve is highly regarded.
