Job Description

Primary Function of Position:

The Clinical Education Trainer uses their in-depth knowledge of Intuitive products and services, surgical and diagnostic procedures, design control, and usability considerations to train and develop product development team members (e.g., engineers, designers, and developers) within an Intuitive internal learning program. The trainer will primarily be responsible for coordination and training of the da Vinci® platform products/services and may secondarily train on the Ion® Endoluminal Platform. They will lead hands-on and lecture-based trainings and hospital case observation and will be actively involved in coordination and continuous improvement of the learning program.

Program Pillars: Product competency and mastery, Leadership, Communication, Task Overlap, Alignment, and Standardization.

Position Responsibilities:

• Regularly conduct and/or coordinate training sessions with internal product development trainees in the form of lecture and hands-on dry labs and/or excised tissue labs, in both on-site and virtual settings. Coordinate and co-teach with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) throughout the organization.
• Provide coaching and mentorship to new team members and other members of shared services organizations throughout the onboarding process
• Provide new team members with exposure to other organizations within Intuitive to understand the relationship between our strategic partners
• Facilitate education through hospital case observation programs, pre-clinical lab participation, surgeon and staff training observation, usability labs and conference attendance
• Perform observational assessments of trainees
• Occasionally host hospital case observations with trainees in a hospital operating room
• Work with the Human Factors Clinical Education team in a creative, dependable, and flexible manner to improve the existing learning program
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to optimize the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of the learning program
• Conduct surveys to gather data and measure program effectiveness
• Develop competency in the following:
• da Vinci® and Ion® Technology and applications
• Users and Use Environments, Perioperative Workflow and OR Efficiency
• Training/coaching techniques/methodologies
• Act as subject matter expert for internal projects, as needed

Qualifications

Skills / Job Requirements:

• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree required
• Minimum 5+ years of directly related experience desired. Medical device experience or clinical/medical degree or experience, radiology technician or surgical scrub experience a plus.
• Experience working with surgeons and hospital staff in an operating room environment and proven clinical credibility a plus
• Must be fluent in medical terminology and have sound knowledge of anatomy or demonstrated capacity to learn endoluminal and soft tissue surgical procedures
• Need strong mechanical aptitude with thorough spatial cognition as they relate to soft tissue surgical procedures
• Training Ability- demonstrated commitment to peer training, specifically related to advanced technology within a clinical environment
• Coaching Skills- demonstrated ability to develop competence in others through structured learning experience and feedback strategies. Knowledge of adult learning principles a plus.
• Solid organizational skills and ability to operate independently on assignments involving multiple teams and individuals
• An experienced leader who is a consistent high performer, a continual learner and leads with emotional intelligence
• Excellent communication (written, verbal), presentation and documentation skills
• High capacity to learn in a fast-paced environment
• Commitment to self-development
• Ability to travel up to 20%, both domestic and international
