International School of Arizona – Founded in 1997, ISA is a nonprofit, independent school educating approximately 250 students, 18 months though grade 8, in a comprehensive, dual language (French and Spanish) international curriculum. Each year students represent about 20 different nationalities and parents self-identify as representing about 50 nationalities or cultures. Faculty and staff hail from 15 different countries. It is a small, diverse but close school community where the Director of Business and Finance is very involved with families, staff, and students on a daily basis.

July 1, 2021.

ISA is accredited in the U.S. by AdvancED. The school’s memberships include NAIS, AAIS, AAIE, AISH, and is a partner of the Arizona Alliance

About the Position
The Director of Business and Finance is responsible to the Head of School for financial, operational and personnel matters and for establishing financial and administrative objectives, policies, programs, and practices consistent with Board policies and legal guidance. Major responsibilities include planning, budgeting, financial management, legal and risk management, cash and endowment management, accounting systems, payroll and human resources.

_Key Tasks and Responsibilities_
_ _ To supervise the work of the school business office and to use standard accounting and bookkeeping procedures; to keep an accurate, continuous record of the cash and financial position of the school; and to manage the financial operation of the school so that the institution remains financially stable.

• To prepare a monthly operating statement for the Head of School and the Board of Trustees.
• To provide a monthly report of expenditures of each individual budget center within the school.
• To establish a plan and schedule for preparation of the annual budget that will permit the setting of the succeeding year’s tuition at a Board of Trustees meeting early in the calendar year.

• To secure and prepare for an annual audit of the school’s financial records and financial positions, and to complete the annual IRS Form 990.

• To have or gain a full understanding of Arizona’s tuition-related tax credit system.

• To oversee all school purchasing, financial investments, banking activities, payroll and benefits programs.

• In conjunction with the Head of School, to provide staff support to the Finance Committee and the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees.

• To manage risk in order to ensure the safety of all visitors and school community members in their use of the facilities, and to maintain appropriate levels of insurance to protect the property and cover the liability of the school.

• To prepare all periodic surveys and compliance reports for various school industry organizations (e.g. NAIS, NBOA), as well as other internal and external information requests for financial data.

• To oversee school transportation, including transportation routes, schedules and contracts and to assess the performance of the transportation companies.

• To ensure the effective management of the bookstore and the food-service operation and other auxiliary enterprises of the school.

• To assist the Head of School with decisions regarding salaries and benefits for all personnel, including the evaluation of support staff.

• To represent the school at various regional, state, and national associations relative to the role of business manager.

• To perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

_Qualifications: _
_ _ 5 years’ experience in customer-centric environment in administrative role

• 3 years’ experience in independent, charter, or public-school administration
• Knowledge of non-profit administration
• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business, or related/equivalent field; CPA preferred but not necessary if evidence of over 5 years of non-profit accounting experience
• Managerial experience with a proven record of mentoring and developing staff.
• Strong proficiency with Excel, Office and other computerized accounting systems is required
• Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge highly beneficial
• Experience with full budget development
• Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment
• Advanced level of proficiency with QuickBooks or similar accounting program.
• High level of proficiency with Microsoft office suite, especially Excel
• 3 years’ supervisory experience
• Ability to pass a background check and obtain an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card

_Working Conditions_
_ _ While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to:

• Regularly remain sedentary for long periods of time in meetings and while processing information and paper work both manually and on a computer.
• Reach with the hands and arms and use of hands to finger, type, and manipulate a computer keyboard and mouse.
• Additionally, the employee must be able to converse in clear English both written and orally, over a telephone and in person.
• Be able to make public presentations.
• Occasionally, employee may be required to lift up to 25 pounds, traverse uneven terrain and climb stairs while moving about campus, bend and stoop, conduct tours and show visitors campus facilities.

• Provide his/her transportation for local and remote events.
• Work hours vary and may include days, nights, and weekends.
