Finance and Logistics Assistant

ICFJ is looking to add to global staff by hiring a Finance and Logistics Assistant to the Programs Department. The FLA is a critical position within ICFJ and will be responsible for supporting the Programs team in administrative duties related to finance and compliance. This position is a great opportunity for someone who is highly organized, pays close attention to detail, can multitask, has a demonstrated understanding of financial best practices and procedures and working with Microsoft Excel and Google spreadsheets. Starting Salary: $44,000

Located: Washington DC. Temporarily Remote Due to COVID-19 until the end of the year. A hybrid model, a mix of remote and in-person, in summer 2022.

Position Type: Full time

Responsibilities:

Playing an integral role in program finances, including:

• Reviewing and processing monthly expense and financial reports;

• Assisting in the process of drafting new contracts and contract amendments;

• Preparing weekly vendor payment requests;

• Liaising with program participants, vendors, donors, sub-grantees and consultants and assisting them with questions;

• Providing logistical support to assigned ICFJ programs, including basic event planning;

• Supporting programs in Latin America and around the world;

• Understanding and adhering to ICFJ’s financial policies and procedures;

• Understanding and complying with donor requirements;

• Entering information into Salesforce and assisting in monitoring and evaluation tasks.

• Performing other administrative tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree from an accredited academic institution. (Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other business field preferred)

• Minimum of one year of experience working in a professional office environment.

• Spanish proficiency preferred.

• Demonstrated knowledge of basic nonprofit finance and accounting best practices.

Competencies:

• Professional Knowledge: Understanding of basic accounting and maintenance of financial records and databases and coordinating logistics; Interest in journalism and international development.

• Quality Orientation: Ability to perform with high attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness when accomplishing tasks.

• Self-Management: Ability to prioritize and adjust to changes with exceptional organizational skills to accomplish work goals and meet deadlines; and work under an appropriate level of supervision, both independently and as a team member in a diverse, fast-paced environment.

• Critical Thinking: Ability to think critically, anticipate issues and find solutions with minimal guidance.

• Communication: Ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively in verbal and written form to a variety of audiences (a high level of English is essential); effectively engage with staff and a diverse range of stakeholders; and respond in a timely manner to requests.

• Digital Skills: General knowledge of computer software and accounting systems; and ability to effectively use computer software and tools to increase efficiency at work.
