Job Description:
The program manager of Surgical Technology is primarily responsible for the planning, delivery and evaluation of classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction, and for providing those related services and support activities required for optimal student learning and effective educational programming from planning through graduation of surgical technology students. This role will also be responsible for initial and ongoing program development growing it to different geographies, potentially streamlining classroom times and looking at multiple concurrent cohorts across the system.

The program manager is a key member of the surgical operations executive team and includes a desire to grow the surgical technologists as a recognized profession and key member of the OR team within Intermountain. This position s to the Surgical Operations Lane Executive team
Intermountain Healthcare’s Surgical Technology program is slated for a late spring 2023 start. This position is based out of LDS Hospital but will have remote work as well as travel to different sites to evaluate clinical performance. This role will work in all geographical areas of surgical operations eventually and continue to develop the program throughout Idaho and Utah and possible Colorado as needs exist.
This program manager has a rapid paced and heavy lift to complete the program development. We are searching for a candidate with a proven record of mentoring and precepting and ideally would have some type of experience in education or teaching. The program manager will need to be able to develop the curriculum for the Intermountain Surgical Tech program, be creative, self-directed, able to multi-task, critically think and problem solve, especially in year one of this new program. The program manager will develop and teach presentations to large groups, oversight online work, evaluate, coach and graduate students to include certification. Professional certification of this candidate is preferred.
This individual will assist in the planning, development and revision of course outlines, syllabi, curriculum plans, and other instructional documentation required to meet program objectives. This includes working with dedicated virtual learning partners to review and revise on-line curriculum. Eventually, this role will expand course development opportunities across geographies.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
This role will assist with marketing, publishing and course application process to ensure strong candidate pool.
They will also assist with program promotion and advertisement externally working with facility leaders to present to area high schools. They will oversight interview and selection process of students.
Once students are selected, the program manager will participate in advising students and work with human resources for hiring into student role and setting up payroll activities each semester. Class preparation includes instructional plans for each class session in accord with the stated objectives of the course curriculum. Other job duties are to maintain OR areas with supplies for lab skill practice and pass off, coordinate the clinical and didactic education for the Surgical Technologist program and coordinate and revise the clinical education plan. The program manager will schedule appropriate clinical rotations to assure fair and equal scheduling of students for all clinical related activities, round at sites during clinical rotations and identify preceptors and assure strong teaching structure in facilities. Meet with preceptors when rounding at sites.
With the help of an administrative assistant, the program manager will maintain complete office and student records, as needed; process s, forms, and all other required paperwork in a timely, efficient manner, checking for the accuracy, correctness, and completeness of all data. This individual will m aintain office hours and/or virtual office time to meet with and counsel students. Finally, this leader will assist with graduation plans including student placement into appropriate facilities and student eligibility for certification.

Entry Rate: $37.23 + experience

Shift Details: Exempt – 40 hours per week
Work Location: LDS Hospital with occasional work-from-home opportunities. Some travel required.
Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated experience to scrub high acuity cases, trauma and level III or IV cases.
Demonstrated ability to perform case preparation anticipating case needs.
Demonstrated ability to teach major courses and present to large groups.
Demonstrated ability to develop initiatives and curriculum.
Demonstrated ability to precept and train including assess clinical performance.
Demonstrated ability to mentor new caregivers (surgical technologists or orderlies who scrub)
Ability to travel to different sites.
Preferred Qualifications
The program manager must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five (5) years.
Certification with a professional organization.
Experience scrubbing higher acuity cases and multiple specialty cases including able to scrub trauma.
When time permits, is willing and able to scrub on occasion.
Demonstrated ability to problem solving and think critically.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to develop new programs, think creatively and put ideas into action.
Demonstrated ability to make effective presentations to large audiences;
Must be experienced with Microsoft Office products, including Excel and Word.
