Position Summary
The Junior Staff Accountant is responsible for processing accounts payable. The Jr. Staff Accountant will be responsible for State tax filings, such as Property, Sales, and Use taxes. This position will report to the Assistant Controller.

• Assists with closing each financial period.
• Assists with month-end and year-end financial activities as needed.
• Prepares and submits state sales and use tax filings and ACH debits.
• Maintains business licenses, where required.
• Analyzes daily bank activity for fraudulent or unauthorized transactions.
• Codes, posts and reconciles accounts payable into 1Staff and performs the weekly disbursements to vendors, via checks and ACH.
• Generates accounts payable and refund checks.
• · Files paid and unpaid invoices and statements. Organizes and matches returns paperwork.
• Generates garnishment checks per reports from payroll.
• Uploads checks into the Positive Pay system and monitors activity daily.
• Reviews accounts payable aging and vendor statements for issues. Troubleshoots short paid and overpaid invoices and communicates to appropriate staff or customer.
• Compiles, calculates, and distributes recruiter reports weekly and follows up on any discrepancies.
• Monitors and supports taxation requirements. Prepares statutory tax returns for all required states. Does not include income taxes.
• Prepares & submits monthly state sales and use tax reports and ACH debits.
• Compiles and distributes 1099 forms to vendors and contractors.
• Monitors accounts payable and refund checks.
• Interacts with vendors to resolve outstanding issues.

Preferred Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; or equivalent experience
• Solid understanding of GAAP
• Detailed understanding of financial statements.
• High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Working knowledge of Great Plains Dynamics or similar software.
