Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Human Services or related field;
Proven ability to contact employers and be familiar with the employment market in the four county areas;
Proven knowledge of human behavior, the organization, and case work principles;
Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written;
Ability to work with a diverse student population;
Must exhibit sound judgment and discretion in working with students;
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and be self-motivated;
Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows based computer applications;
Valid Florida driver’s license;
As this position requires direct contact with faculty, staff, the general public and student participants on a regular basis, the ability to deal with people on every level is extremely important.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Providing career counseling, recommendations, and exploration to St. Lucie and Martin Counties;
Providing ongoing supportive counseling and emergency services;
Providing One Stop Services and referrals via the assessment and evaluation system of the Department of Labor;
Making decisions as to program admissions, i.e. testing, prospects’ skill levels, determining program expenditures for training, etc.;
Exercising professional judgment to select training needed and the fiscal support required to provide for the participants;
Maintaining current job listings available to Farmworker participants;
Identifying the options to select and committing the Program’s resources to the participants and employers contacted;
Interpreting, adapting, and implementing policies within the national guidelines for the Farmworker Program as determined to be necessary;
Negotiating with program participants and community employers and making binding agreements for the participants and employers which will impact the program operation.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Providing career counseling to include conducting assessment, eligibility, and in-take interviews which include assessing barriers to participation, determining the need for support services and assigning to the appropriate status;
Completing all case narratives, recommendations, and reports;
Providing supportive counseling and long term follow up for evaluation;
Providing counseling related to customer problems;
Maintaining payroll and case records for all participants following up on customer referrals to insure the customer is receiving services as arranged;
Inputting short and long-term program planning;
Assisting in developing the objectives of the program;
Determining the program direction, which heavily influences the outcomes by which the program is measured;
Attending meetings regarding customers;
Submitting monthly reports of activities;
Maintaining communications with all agencies as appropriate;
Routinely investigating and settling important program matters, handling complaints, and resolving any disputes of participants, employers, and community partners;
Completing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25 ) pounds. It al so requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
