2.7.18 Position: Versatile Support Worker

Hours: To be flexible as negotiated with INS. Overnights and day shifts available.

Purpose of Position:

This is a unique opportunity for skilled workers who embrace change and enjoy diversity within their scope of work.

This position provides coverage in residential programs with youth or adults in community-based programs to meet operational requirements. Responsibilities include temporarily covering a position and/or shifts as needed according to program schedule. This will involve working between different programs and locations as needed. It is possible that the Versatile Support Worker may spend extended periods of time in one program to help balance off long term absences i.e.) illness, vacation, coverage of staff while in training, etc.

Work will vary between the employment standards for hourly rates and live-in home support worker daily rates., dependent on the need.

Scope of Position:

Working with the team, the Versatile Support Worker will provide services that include support that will maintain or improve the physical, social, and psychological health of individuals who, for a variety of reasons, may not be fully able to care for themselves. Provide residential support in our therapeutic homes in the community of Dawson Creek, for adults /youth who have a developmental disability, who are experiencing maladaptive behavior, high risk behavior, or have a history of trauma. Activities will enhance the social, emotional, physical needs and be delivered with dignity and in a respectful manner Delivery of services is in accordance with MCFD, CLBC and INS policies and procedures. Support will include follow through with routines for social development, psycho-social opportunities in the community and independent living skills support in the home. This support model embraces the Circle of Courage (Belonging, Mastery of Skill, Independence, and Generosity).

Responsibilities:

1. Home and Community – Deliver services at the community level

Activities – follow through with routines in place for

• community inclusion

• Maintains open communication with community resources, professionals, and agencies (within the bounds of confidentiality)

• Interacts with others involved with the Individual to support their relationships within the community

• Participates as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide services

• Follow through with established routines and protocols in home and community that promote a high quality of life for the individual as per their Person-Centered Plan.

2. Implement Support Services

Activities

• Provide live-in home support model for Individuals that includes all aspects of daily living

• Participate in development of Person-Centered Plan and behavioural planning (if required)

• Follow through with strategies in place that will enhance skill level and increase quality of life. These strategies must be introduced with sensitivity and discretion.

• Support work, volunteer, or educational activities

• Follow health care plan including administration of medication, monitoring of physical, mental, and behavioural health symptoms.

• Assist in developing or follow through with a schedule that includes participation in home living skills, social skills, community access, and leisure activities. This includes sports and recreational activities.

• Keep a record of all contacts with individual/family outlining activities participated in, progress and barriers, for each day

• Follow through with strategies in place for the individual that will enhance their skill level and increase their quality of life. These strategies must be introduced with sensitivity and discretion.

• teaching life skills; social skills; vocational skills; responsibility for personal safety; seeking housing; and personal advocacy.

3. Participate as an INS Team Member

Activities

• Act as a participating member of individual’s team fostering a positive relationship with all members.

• Document and any abuse of the Individuals in our care

• Carry out all duties in a manner which provides stimulation and motivation for Individuals

• Documenting and file management; adhere to guidelines and procedures

• Attend all relevant meetings as requested by INS Inc.

• Access all relevant training as requested by INS Inc.

Qualifications:

• Experience supporting individuals who have a developmental disability and behavioral difficulties

• Must be flexible and adaptable to meet demands of the position

• Good Interpersonal/Communication Skills (oral and written)

• Experience working with children and youth/adults in a residential setting

• Experience working with children and youth/adults who have a mental health issue or developmental disability.

• One year certificate in Youth Work or Foundations in Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies (or equivalency).

• Dependable, reliable, family focused.

• Valid Driver’s License & Vehicle.

• Valid Emergency First Aid Certificate, Food Safe, WHIMS

Remuneration:

 Hourly rate $ 22.68 – 23.90 (dependent on qualifications and length of experience as it relates to our agency culture for delivering supports).

Daily rate set according to program guidelines for overnight shifts

 Pre-authorized travel, directly related to supported individual needs, outside of Dawson Creek will be paid at $.40 per kilometre to a max. of $50.00 per return trip (use of own vehicle)

 Benefit package available after 3 months of employment.
