As a Staff Software Engineer on the SMB Platform API team, you will:

  • Build, migrate, and maintain robust APIs designed with scalability in mind.
  • Develop and promote API best practices that continue to evolve and push the boundaries of the API story at Indeed.
  • Collaborate with product managers, subject matter experts, and multiple engineering teams across the Indeed SMB organization.
  • Build and maintain tools and infrastructure critical in supporting our engineering efforts to help people get jobs.
  • Guide the team’s development work, removing blockers, and making product and technical decisions to help the team effectively meet its goals.
  • Lead designs of major software components, systems, and features that are resilient and scalable.


Who You Are

You should possess a mix of technical and business strength, with strong initiative, ownership, and follow-through. You are driven and motivated to design and build best-in-class APIs that abstract away complexities from other developers. You have strong communication skills, can work well in a distributed team model, and have a growth mindset.

Our ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Has experience developing software for large scale distributed systems in Java/Kotlin.
  • Has experience with API design in various protocols (GraphQL, REST, gRPC, etc.)
  • Has experience with a breadth of backend architecture principles and technologies.
  • Has experience with a breadth of data platforms such as MySQL, Elastic Search, and Spark.
  • Has experience mentoring and training other team members on design techniques and coding standards
  • Is thoughtful and vigilant about risk and tradeoffs in the solutions we build.
  • Loves to learn and develop new skills continuously.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a closely related computer technical field with 8+ years experience (optionally 6+ with MS) developing backend software applications.
  • Minimum 3 year of experience mentoring more junior Engineers.

Salary Range Disclaimer

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Indeed salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Indeed’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include quarterly bonuses, Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), an open Paid Time Off policy, and many region-specific benefits.


Salary Range Transparency

Austin 132,000 – 192,000 USD per year
