Your Job

As a Software Engineering Manager at Indeed, you will provide hands-on leadership of a team of developers building integrations to partner systems. You will both contribute directly to building integrations, act as the point of contact for reviewing technical documentation for potential new integrations, and manage a combination of employees and contractors to deliver integrations.
You are comfortable learning new things on the fly and helping your team learn unfamiliar systems and technology. You make pragmatic technology decisions to balance scalability, speed to market, and long-term maintainability. You document implementations effectively and work with internal and external stakeholders to validate integrations and deliver them to customers.
The Matching Science team’s mission is to enable matches between jobseekers and jobs, leading to interviews and hires, with the world’s highest-quality job recommendations. To achieve this, we leverage Indeed’s rich data to build machine learning models for our recommendation engines. We work closely with teams in Tokyo, Singapore, Austin, and Seattle. We use various techniques related to information retrieval, ranking, deep learning, and NLP, and our engine powers multiple major Indeed products. Also, we come from diverse backgrounds, spanning many nationalities from all over the world.
We focus on innovating on the way people get jobs and employers hire people. What if employers can locate qualified candidates within a few hours of job posting and start conversations with them? What if jobseekers get to know of the opening of their dream job right after it’s posted on the web and get hired within a few days? We develop recommendation engine using various data with machine learning to show jobseekers matched with jobs while also helping employers find the right candidates quickly.

Responsibilities:

  • Hire a team of diverse, talented software engineers, help them improve their skills, and grow their careers
  • Insist on seeing the impact of your work every day, across your team, and your customers
  • Create an engineering culture with an exceedingly high bar for quality, ownership, and bias for action
  • Collaborate with PMs, engineering and data science leads, and other stakeholders to ensure our products provide the best possible customer experience
  • Define and drive your team’s technology vision and roadmap


Who You Are

Required:
  • Experience with leading/managing a high performing engineering team
  • Experience with service-oriented system architectures, high-performance distributed systems, APIs, and A/B testing
  • Agile mindset of delivering incrementally and learning through data.
  • Collaborative mindset of working with people with diverse skillsets (e.g. Data Scientists)
  • Experience with at least one of the following languages: Java, Scala, Kotlin, C++, Python, C#.
  • Solid knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and data storage at scale.
  • Success in establishing new engineering practices and measuring the impact.
  • Experience with evaluating team members’ performance.
Nice to have:
  • Experience with building scalable and flexible machine learning model training pipeline and model serving systems
  • Experience with recommendation or search engines.
  • Success with managing partially or fully remote teams.
  • Solid track record of coaching team members through promotions and career goals.
  • Experience building cloud-based solutions.

Salary Range Disclaimer

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Indeed salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Indeed’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include quarterly bonuses, Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), an open Paid Time Off policy, and many region-specific benefits.

Tokyo 16,327,000 – 23,673,000 JPY per year
