Imperial College London Hiring for Library Assistant (Medicine) Job at Hammersmith, England Full Time

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team at our Hammersmith Hospital campus library. As a Library Assistant you will be responsible for delivering a first-class library service to students and staff from the Faculty of Medicine, other College library users and members of staff from partner NHS trusts. You will be responsible for making library users feel welcomed, supported and well informed.

You will be based at the Hammersmith campus library where you will be part of a small team who work closely with the other medical campus teams and the rest of Library Services to deliver high quality, efficient and effective library services.

Duties and responsibilities

You will be responsible for answering general enquiries, supporting circulation services, providing membership services and keeping the library operating smoothly and safely.

Key activities include:

• Staffing the issue desk
• Shelving, tidying the book stock, and carrying out stock management activities
• Registering new library users and setting up IT accounts
• Operating the library access control system
• Assisting with inter-library and inter-site loans

Essential requirements

• At least 5 GCSEs grade A-C, or equivalent qualifications
• Experience of providing a frontline library service
• Familiarity and with computer systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Good customer service and interpersonal skills, with an ability to engage to different people
• Good team player, flexible, co-operative and dedicated to helping your team deliver a great service
• Ability to manage own workload and demonstrate initiative when faced with new situations

Further information

• Full time permanent contract
• Normal hours of work – Monday to Friday 9:00 – 17:00, occasional early starts or late finishes may be required to cover sickness or leave.
• This is a frontline position which will generally be required on-site five days per week
