About the role

We are recruiting for a Head of Quality of Education. One of your main focuses will be to lead on all aspects of quality and performance. Responsible for Customer Service and Teaching, Learning and Assessment functions including Maths, English and Digital Skills. Key success criteria will be to build on recent inspection improvements and move towards OFSTED ‘Outstanding’. You will develop, manage and implement the business quality improvement plans and SAR to support with driving improvements across the business.

This role requires someone with energy, passion and ambition to drive this aspect of our business to the next level including working with delivery staff to continuously improve the apprentice experience. The role involves implementing the learning framework across all aspects of provision, as well as leading, developing and supporting provision that is responsive and innovative in meeting all customer expectations, ensuring that our offer is mapped to local, regional and national priorities, is current, credible and flexible, and provides clear progression opportunities to employment or further study.

This role will also involve leading and managing the internal curriculum team, supporting the development curriculum that meets the needs of our employers and organisation. The new Head of Quality of Education will put quality and compliance at the forefront of everything the business does, acting with integrity and setting high expectations for colleagues.

  • Help define our apprenticeship and traineeship coaching approach, using innovative, engaging and digitally-led learning, and ensure consistent high-quality delivery of this to each and every apprentice
  • Contribute and build on our end point assessment (EPA) strategy and ensure implementation working in conjunction with the Operations Team
  • To ensure the whole learner experience is varied, has breadth and enables all to reach their full potential in line with their specific learning plan, and to host regular quality meetings to celebrate success, share good practice, address developments and provide updates as required
  • To develop and promote comprehensive guidance documents on the internal and external quality assurance of apprenticeship provision, and to implement the learning framework across all aspects of provision. The post-holder will lead, develop and support provision that is responsive and innovative in meeting all customer expectations, ensuring that our offer is mapped to local, regional and national priorities, is current, credible and flexible, and provides clear progression opportunities to employment or further study.
  • To ensure that equality and diversity is promoted and embedded within the curriculum and that staff feel confident to challenge and develop learners’ tolerance to difference, as well as ensuring business EDI, sustainability, PREVENT, safeguarding and H&S arrangements are embedded in teaching & learning.
  • To work with the quality team on an annual programme of quality audits and spot checks with particular focus on observations of teaching, learning and assessment and a plan to continue our Outstanding status in all areas of teaching, learning and assessment- as well as implementing the teaching, learning and assessment observation policy and produce smart action plans to support improvements
  • To strategically lead the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) of all staff including assessors and development coaches to reach outstanding judgments on Observations and keep up to date with their subject-specific professions
  • To source, devise and coordinate resources to support lower-ability learners to make expected progress while the ablest will benefit from challenging activities and resources, such as progress-boosting workshops, as well ensuring that learners from disadvantaged backgrounds receive specific support to overcome barriers to their learning
  • Implement and manage strategies to obtain/retain quality standards e.g. Matrix as well as monitoring IAG standards, implement strategies for enhancement of our careers advice and guidance

About you


You will:

  • Have 5 years quality management experience as well as a recognised teaching qualification (desirable)
  • Have a passion for education, teaching and supporting learners
  • Be assessor qualified and IQA qualified (desirable)
  • Have a strong knowledge of ESFA and ESF funding rules, and the OFSTED Education Inspection Framework
  • Have demonstrable experience of driving quality improvements
  • Have experience of coaching and mentoring individuals to drive and improve performance
  • Have Level 3 Management qualification (or the willingness to work towards)
  • Have proven experience of carrying out observations for teaching, learning and assessment
  • Possess strong people management and coaching skills and the be able to manage sensitive and difficult situations
