The opportunity

Are you looking for an opportunity to start your career as a Software Developer? We have an exciting apprenticeship opportunity for a Software Developer to join our growing Engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills whilst contributing to the success of our platform. We will provide you with the opportunity to learn our codebase and contribute to the wider engineering team objectives. You will be paired with various members of the team to work on complex tasks to support the technical roadmap.

Initially, when joining the team you will be working on straightforward tasks and bugs whilst getting to know the basic software skills and workflows required to be a developer. You will have the opportunity to work with different teams and specialities on a rotational basis to help you find the work you most enjoy doing. You will be part of a feature delivery team where you can further your career creating product solutions.

Our apprenticeship runs for 24 months and you will begin your apprenticeship with a 14 week full time virtual course with our training providers, starting on the 28th November 2022. Upon completion you will join our engineering team based in Bristol, UK.

Your main responsibilities:

• Assist with tasks to facilitate the delivery of product features and improvements to the platform
• Help to triage and resolve low impact platform bugs and issues
• Work with different specialities to learn what area of software development suits you best
• Bring process improvement ideas to the team
• To support the technical roadmap by working with the Technical Product Owner to reduce technical debt and other high priority work
• Working with QA to deliver automated tests to ensure we have full confidence in the features we are releasing

To be successful:

This is an exciting opportunity to start your career as a Software Developer and therefore we do not require previous work experience, but some knowledge of a programming language is essential. What is most important to us is enthusiasm and drive to develop your skills and contribute to the ongoing success of our platform and be part of Immersive Labs’ exciting journey.

• We are looking for individuals who are an active part of the tech community or have some evidence of passion for coding and development
• Must hold excellent communication and team working skills
• Enjoy being in a dynamic and fast paced environment
• An interest in JavaScript/React or Ruby (with opportunity to learn)
• An interest in cyber security
• Applicants should hold an A-Level in a relevant subject; a level 3 apprenticeship, BTEC diploma in IT or other relevant qualifications or experience in a similar role
• We cannot accept applications from individuals who currently hold a computer science degree or a level 4 apprenticeship in Software development
• GCSE English and Maths grade A-C/ level 4 will be required – if you do not currently hold this then support will be provided to obtain this during the apprenticeship

What you can expect once you apply:

Immersive Labs is offering this apprenticeship in partnership with Makers Academy you will need to complete this form for your application to be fully considered

You will then be invited to complete a coding exercise within 10 days of your application before 2 rounds of interviews; remote interviews with Makers Academy will take place between 14th October – 24th October following this interviews with Immersive Labs will take place between 25th- 28th October. You’ll be informed after each stage if you have been successful. Following the assessment’s if you are ultimately successful you will be offered the opportunity to join Immersive Labs and undertake an initial 3 month coding bootcamp with Makers Academy commencing on the 28th November 2022.
