Hutch Hiring for ASSISTANT DESIGNER – Contemporary Apparel at New York, New York Full Time

Contemporary apparel company has an immediate opening for an Assistant Designer to work directly with Design team and Owner. This an excellent opportunity for an energetic go-getter to work within an entrepreneurial, young, friendly environment that is open to innovation and thinking inside and outside of the box. 

Seeking an entry level Assistant Designer with at least one year solid in the contemporary market – dress experience is a plus. This position is a support role for the Design team and Sales/Marketing Dept, and will handle aspects of both design & sample line production. Ideal candidate will also have strong trend knowledge and a great book. Looking for self-starting, goal driven professional who knows how to watch, listen, learn, and then perform as asked.

Qualifications

• Impeccable attention to detail and deadlines with exceptional organizational skills
• Self-starter with the ability to function independently as well as in a team based environment
• Team player with excellent written & communication skills and necessary follow through
• Upbeat, positive attitude, and ability to be flexible
• Proficient in MAC, Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator, MS Office – especially Excel
• Ability to lift over 50lbs

Responsibilities

• Execute all local Design errands, deliveries, etc.
• Organize all swatches with vendor info: pricing, minimums, etc.
• Handle all Design office upkeep, organization, etc
• Schedule Fabric Appts/Fabric Shows and attend
• Assist with all flat/CAD development
• Attend and take active role in all fittings, taking notes, pictures, etc.
• Create Detailed tech packs for new development styles for both Collection and Development
• Communicate with all overseas mills and factories, track all overseas development/submit
• Communicate all bulk/submit comments/approval
• Support w/ Private Label accounts – manage headers, CADS, swatching, etc.
• Liaise between Design, Production and Sales
• Assist Domestic Production Manager with any and all issues that may arise
• Handle the moving of all fabrics between cutting rooms, factories, etc.
• Assemble samples, sew-bys, trim packages, etc.
• Support with Marketing/Graphic Design – execute all email blasts, website maintenance and updates
• Assemble all sample cut tickets/swatching
• Ability and willingness to be flexible in assisting all other departments
