We are looking for a passionate Cloud Engineer with a focus on the Database craft to join our Cloud Enablement Teams. The focus will be on cloud databases (AWS specific), database management, as well as acting as a consultant across the business with regards to database architecture, new requirements and dealing with incidents. The role will require you to work alongside our product teams to ensure these teams are supported when it comes to maintenance and running of these platforms. The team works with a variety of database technologies including RDS (mySQL PostreSQL, SQL Server), Redshift, DMS, Aurora as well various AWS core services alongside top-notch automation and observability tools to support it.

Key Responsibilities

• The Senior software engineer autonomously delivers business impact across a team, delivering capabilities or technical systems. They are an expert at identifying the right solutions to solve ambiguous problems that require tough prioritization.
• is a strong technical leader within their team while their impact extends outside the team as they increasingly optimize beyond their team by driving cross team initiatives. Senior Software Engineers may occasionally work across teams to ensure the right solution is in place.
• plays a key role in setting technical strategy for business impacting projects, defining technical roadmaps often involving cross team dependencies. They actively coach and mentor less experienced members of the team by helping them with their craft, providing guidance and setting a good example.

Infrastructure and Operation support

• Maintain the current infrastructure by providing support during normal working hours and on a 24/7 out of hours support rota.
• BAU support for infrastructure and development teams
• Performance Tuning, failover, backup
• Capacity to meet business needs by designing solutions that meet current requirements and are adaptable for future enhancements
• Experience in high-traffic zero-downtime production systems

Critical Thinking

• Identify patterns and underlying issues and to propose solutions by applying logical and analytical thinking
• Constructively take part in the evaluation and application of ideas, plans and solutions.

Technical Incident Management

• Is responsible to address and resolve live production issues by mitigating the customer impact within SLA.

Monitoring and Alerting improvements

• Able to review and verify performance of production systems and infrastructure by continuously monitoring appropriate observability metrics, business KPIs through an extensive set of already in place monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, SQL Monitor, CloudWatch).

Preferred Skills/Experience/Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with:
• Terraform and /or CDK, Troposphere, CloudFormation, GoCD and GitLab.
• S3, EC2, Lambda, ECS, EKS, KMS and the various commonly used AWS services.
• YAML, Python and Typescript.
• Exposure to automation and configuration management tools such as Puppet, Ansible or other.
• In-depth knowledge and hands on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
