Job Summary
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Human Resources, you will be responsible for collaborating with your client group and providing advice and subject matter expertise on all matters relating to human resources (HR) and labour relations (LR). You will play a key role in implementing HR and LR initiatives, including a leading-edge talent management program, and you will act as a change agent for how your client’s approach LR and how they lead others. You will use your superior coaching and influencing skills to counsel managers at all levels, fostering positive working relationships with both your clients and the Union employees and Officials working under the Collective Bargaining Agreements associated with your client.
Main Responsibilities
Advise and counsel front line leaders on all aspects of human resources and labour relations including acting as a point of contact for interpretations of Collective Bargaining Agreements and Company Policies Administer collective agreements for Transportation client groups Lead human resources and labour relations training for both front line supervisors and Managers Represent the Company in Joint Conference, labour-management meetings, Mediations and Labour Arbitration with union representatives Participate in workforce planning and Talent Acquisition initiatives in conjunction with the recruitment team Take part in performance management activities including preparing performance improvement plans and coaching managers Participate in talent management initiatives, including identifying skills gaps, and recommending development initiatives to support succession plans Train people managers in leadership development and company policies Review the annual compensation and the promotion requests Lead succession planning discussions and Talent management initiatives Drive employee engagement and recognition initiatives
Working Conditions
Ability to travel within Canada up to 15% monthly, and within the United States on an occasional basis
Requirements
Experience
Human resources
Minimum 5 years of generalist experience in human resources, supporting multi-level clients within a heavy industrial setting (field or multi-plant setting) within one of the following industries: transportation, mining, manufacturing, construction Minimum 5 years labour relations experience directly administering a collective agreement
Education/Certification/Designation
Bachelor’s degree in human resources or equivalent field Professional in Human Resources (CPHR designation), or actively working toward certification in the province of British Columbia
