POSITION SUMMARY
Houston Metro Urology, Houston’s largest and most comprehensive urology group is seeking a Director of Revenue Cycle to join our team. With 20+ physicians, 10 locations and 130+ employees, HMU specializes in general urology for both men and women, as well as specialty areas such as incontinence, robotic and laparoscopic surgery, management of kidney stone disease, cancer treatment of the genitourinary organs and more.
The Director of Revenue Cycle oversees the group’s billing and revenue cycle operations including contracting, credentialing, coding collections, receivables, regulations, payer relations as well as revenue cycle integrity issues, analysis and strategic revenue cycle management. Hires, directs and manages Central Business Office (CBO) staff for all revenue cycle functions. Financial responsibilities include monthly ing, general ledger ing, along with planning and management of annual budget. s to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and works closely with the Director of Finance (DFO).
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Recommends reimbursement policy based upon trends in State and Federal mandates regarding reimbursement, industry trends, best practices, contract language and compliance.
2. Establishes and implements policies, procedures and systems to achieve efficient revenue
cycle management. Analyzes and recommends changes in system, procedures and policies to improve workflow and efficiencies.
3. Develops, revises and promotes objectives of the central billing office, which align with the overall objectives of Houston Metro Urology annual goals.

4. Participates in the development and implementation of budgets and monitors and controls departmental expenditures within budget. Reviews budgets with COO/DFO, analyzes expenditure needs and reviews requests for departmental purchases.
5. Reviews and makes recommendations for future managed care negotiations and contracting.
6. Monitors managed care contracts to verify agreed-upon reimbursements.
7. Collaborates with both internal and external peers to ensure efficient and cost-effective
operations.
8. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies governing healthcare delivery by keeping
abreast of the latest regulatory bulletins. Communicates current regulations to providers and staff.
9. Participates in management team meetings, Performance Improvement projects; serves on various committees dedicated to Performance Improvement as directed by COO to achieve service excellence for patients, employees and the community.
10. Coordinates activities of all staff, and delegates responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
11. Encourages and models communication to problems; implements suggested changes as necessary.
12. Creates opportunities to consult, influence, advise, interpret and coordinate initiatives to
provide problem resolution or gain support of others, as appropriate, to ensure achievement of Houston Metro Urology goals and objectives.
13. Maintains a safe, clean, comfortable and quiet environment for patients and personnel; monitors physical property and oversees maintenance as necessary.
14. Ensures management systems are properly maintained.
15. Conducts regular department meetings to keep personnel informed for directives, policies and procedures.
16. Oversees and maintains Athena EMR for patient medical records, patient scheduling and appointment reminders.
17. Responsible for the selection and termination of employees. Evaluates the performance of staff being supervised; prepares and administers disciplinary actions as needed.
18. Maintains responsibility for developing, implementing, and monitoring the portion of employee orientation programs for new billing staff members.
19. Works closely with Practice Managers to ensure optimal revenue cycle management.
20. Encourages integration of all HMU facilities with the community through effective communication and public relations programs.
21. Responsible for collection agency and other vendor management.
22. Acts as a resource in the development of accurate charge capture tools.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
1. Strong analytical and organizational skills.
2. Knowledge of medical terminology and CPT and ICD-10 coding and documentation.
3. Knowledge of government and reimbursement regulation requirements and organization
policies, procedures and systems including knowledge of computer systems and applications.
4. Well-developed managerial skills necessary to plan, organize and manage accounts
receivable and business operations.
5. Well-developed leadership and interpersonal skills including team building, negotiation,
consultation, and the ability to communicate well with a variety of patients, family members,
visitors, medical group staff, providers, public and external agencies in a professional
manner.
6. Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills necessary to facilitate accurate
communication with providers and staff.
7. Ability to analyze, interpret and summarize contracts, regulations, s, technical journals
and legal documents.
8. Act as a problem solver who can identify problems; recommend options and appropriate
solutions.
9. Model strong team building skills.
10. Demonstrated ability to effectively set priorities and meet commitments.
11. Proficient in all computer systems relevant to this position.
12. Experience with AthenaHealth a plus.
The above level of knowledge, skills and abilities are normally acquired through 5+ years previous management experience in hospital or physician office or similar setting with educational degree in finance or business. Master’s degree in finance or business preferred.
