Summary

The House of Lords Administration employs 600 staff, providing the administrative and logistical support for the House of Lords to work as an effective second chamber of Parliament.

The Finance Department, under the Finance Director, has around 50 staff. It provides financial services to the House of Lords, including financial management and reporting, budget planning and control, procurement (for both Houses), payment services (including claims for financial support for Members) and staff payroll.


Job description

The main objective is to deal with allowance and expense claims for Members of the House of Lords in accordance with the scheme of ‘Financial Support for Members’.


Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have the following skills/experience:

– Technical skills – Previous administrative experience and good IT skills, including knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office and computerised accounting systems.

  • Analytical skills and problem solving – proven analytical and numerical skills; being comfortable with detailed number work, including manual calculations.
  • Communication skills – Clear and accurate oral, written and online communications skills, including the ability to explain and clarify issues around Members’ Finance. This role requires a high level of telephone, written correspondence and personal contact with Members.
