Job Description

House of How is looking for an Audio Director.

Responsibilities

• Work with design, engineering, and other disciplines to help build solid products as a team, ensuring audio has a solid and equal seat at the table.
• Work with other project directors to develop, maintain, and execute on the creative and technical vision for the game through a synthesis of visuals and audio.
• Help build a dedicated audio team for a growing game studio that you can guide and direct, defining audio needs and values for the studio.
• Demonstrate and facilitate a strong understanding of music, mixing, dialogue, Foley, and sound design, guiding our team to meet our quality requirements.
• Prioritize and provide feedback and guidance on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Manage and mentor sound designers, composers, and audio engineers, practicing and promoting good communication, professionalism, quality, etc.
• Interface directly with clients to understand their needs and form solid working relationships.
• Research, conceptualize, and craft audio styles for projects.
• Pre-production support for music, dialogue, and/or sound effect assets as well as establishing pipelines and style guides.
• Create assets in a variety of software packages chosen at your discretion, such as Pro-Tools, FL Studio, Ableton Live, Reaper, Wwise, FMOD, and/or other tools.
• Contribute to all aspects of sound design, music composition, implementation, post-production, and audio engineering.
• Lead the implementation of audio assets to ensure continuity and quality.
• Conduct and assist with field recordings.
• Assist with audio R&D and tool development.
• Collaborate with game designers, artists, and engineers to enhance the gameplay experience through audio.
• Ensure the creation of all sound assets and the implementation of them achieve the established quality bar.
• Learn, maintain, and raise the standards for all sound asset implementation within all pipelines.
• Be proactive and vocal about any issues encountered in our audio pipeline and communicate with the production team in a timely manner.
• Establish and enforce quality standards for sound and music assets and the audio experience.
• Oversee the development, deployment, and usage of tools, scripts, and plugins to streamline audio processes, providing key input and review.
• Lead the design and documentation of audio workflows and tool usage, including best practices and pipelines for projects.
• Work quickly and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Work with the production team to ensure schedules are achievable and appropriate steps are taken to overcome all challenges as they arise.
• Select and supervise external sound designers and composers.
• Oversee the final mix for multiple game projects.

Requirements

• 3+ years in an audio management role.
• 5+ years in an audio role in video games.
• 2+ shipped AA or AAA game on PC or console.
• 2+ years experience with a game engine such as Unity or Unreal.
• Experience with sound design for real-time applications.
• Extensive audio recording, processing, and mixing skills, particularly with sound effects and dialogue.
• Extensive knowledge and experience with current pro audio tools, such Pro-Tools, Sound Forge, Waves and other high-end plug-ins, etc., as well as professional outboard gear, recording gear, and microphones.
• Mastery of DAW systems, such as Pro-Tools, FL Studio, Ableton Live, Logic, Cubase, Sound Forge, and/or Reaper.
• In-depth knowledge of the audio engines currently on the market, such as Wwise and FMOD.
• Knowledge of tools and pipelines used by current high-end game companies for cutting-edge audio effects.
• Excellent communication and personal time management within a remote work environment.
• Able to give and receive meaningful critique and feedback.
• Written and Spoken English Fluency.
• Familiarity with Git, or other source control systems.
• Familiarity with ADO, Trello, Jira, or other task tracking systems.
• You have experience working in Agile environments and on multi-disciplinary teams.
• Cleared to work and located in the United States, Canada, or Sweden.

Bonus Qualifications

• Familiarity with 3D spatialized audio.
• Programming or scripting skills is a plus.
• A portfolio of composed music.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 – $150,000.00 per year
