Finance and Management Accountant

We have 3 exciting opportunities available across 2 teams – Finance, Portfolio and Performance (FPP) and In House Services and Estates team as an Apprentice. The successful apprentices may rotate between the other apprenticeship roles of the same grade during the first three years after appointment, ensuring that the individual gains the expected levels of experience to support their apprenticeship qualification.

What’s the role?

The Management Accountant Apprentice in the Finance, Portfolio and Performance Team will be part of the Financial Planning and Analysis team and will provide financial and business support to across the two planning and performance teams. The duties will include supporting and contributing to the production of finance reports, providing analysis and insight and undertaking transactional support to non-finance stakeholders.

The Asset Accountant Apprentice role in the Finance, Portfolio and Performance Team will be part of the Financial Accounting team and will be responsible for maintaining the non-property financial fixed asset register and will work closely with the Parliamentary Digital Services Team to ensure that all capital plant and equipment is accounted for correctly. You will also have the opportunity to gain experience of producing Financial Statements for some of the smaller grant funded bodies

The Management Accountant Apprentice role in the In-House Services and Estates Team will be part of the Finance team and will provide financial expertise and support to IHSE Directors and budget holders. The work involves preparing annual estimates, profiled budgets and forecasts and providing reports, month end financial procedures, advice and other information to help staff manage budgets and meet targets.

As part of this role the successful candidate will undertake a level 7 Accountancy / Taxation Professional Apprenticeship. The successful candidates will be able to choose either the ACCA or CIMA pathway. We will enrol you onto the apprenticeship shortly after you join, and it will typically take 36 months to complete. You will complete training for 20% of your time, including from an apprenticeship training provider. More information on the Apprenticeship can be found here:

Qualifications

The following qualifications are required for this role:

Essential

5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English: grade C / 4 or above

2 A levels at C and above in any subjects OR an Association of Accounting Technician (AAT) at level 4

Please note, these roles are apprenticeship roles. If you have a degree in an unrelated field and you have the required GCSEs, A level or AAT qualification (or equivalent), then you are eligible to apply.

Skills and Experience

• Recent experience of operating in a financial environment, with an understanding of the core concepts of basic accounting and ability to explain clearly why they are needed.
• Experience of analysing and interpreting accounting data ensuring that satisfactory explanations are provided for variances and errors are investigated and corrected appropriately.
• Be proactive and take ownership for tasks and issues ensuring tasks are completed on time, to a high standard, and can prioritise effectively to meet objectives
• Ability to proficiently use financial systems, has advanced Excel skills as well as good Microsoft Office skills and can produce concise and accurate briefing notes, communications and reports.
• Builds trusted and sustainable relationships with individuals and organisations. Consistently support individuals to achieve results as part of a team and upholds the House Service values: inclusive, courageous, trusted, collaborative.
