Role Summary

The Crew Controller is responsible for proactively and continuously monitoring crew issues to support the operation within the Systems Operations Control (SOC) center for Horizon Air. As an individual contributor, this role takes action to repair crew disruptions while ensuring compliance with FAA regulations, Collective Bargaining Agreements, and company policies.

Key Duties

• Take initiative to develop solutions for crew related operational issues and formulate potential crew recovery plans.
• Make recommendations to solve operational irregularities considering factors such as FAR compliance, company policy and procedures, weather, airport conditions, mechanical problems, and crew availability.
• Perform as the Team Lead and establish priorities for Crew Scheduling focusing on the daily operation and operational factors including, but not limited to, irregular operations, weather events, emergency response, and service recovery.
• Represent Crew Scheduling as the subject matter expert within SOC and serve as primary point of contact for Flight Ops, Inflight, and other SOC employees regarding contractual interpretation, staffing challenges and Crew Scheduling impacts.
• With limited direction from Manager, supervise crew scheduling shifts as needed.
• Monitor real-time operation activity, including deadheads, crew connections and crew staffing to prevent crew cancellations and/or minimize crew delays.
• Reassign/reschedule non-routine crews including what-if scenarios. Notify crews of equipment substitutions, cancellations and/or delays.
• Provide information to SOC decision-makers, especially during irregular operations.
• Ensure efficient departmental functions to support Horizon’s operational reliability.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

• 2 years of customer service experience in an operational environment.
• 6 months of crew scheduling or crew planning experience, or relevant experience in aviation, airline operations, transportation operations, or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
• Ability and willingness to accept shift work (e.g., weekends, holidays, after hours, on-call, etc.).
• Ability and willingness to work AM/PM/Graveyard hours as needed.
• Must be punctual and flexible.
• Strong commitment to deliver outstanding customer service to our crew members and other internal customers.
• Experience with regulatory rules affecting crew scheduling including FARs, crew logistics and in-depth knowledge of both IBT and AFA collective bargaining agreements.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum age of 18.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

• Strong working knowledge of AIMS crew management software.
• Leadership abilities demonstrating self-reliance, self-motivation, and professional assertiveness.
• Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and the ability to work well under pressure.
