Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital Hiring for Post Doctoral Fellow – TRAIL Lab at Toronto, ON Full Time

START DATE: September or October 2021

REPORTING TO: Dr. Sally Lindsay

Applications are invited for a temporary, full-time post-doctoral fellow with interest in improving inclusive employment for young people with disabilities. This fellow will work with a Senior Scientist and multi-disciplinary research teams in the Bloorview Research Institute (fully affiliated with the University of Toronto), TRAIL lab and other partners and organizations.

This post-doctoral fellow will contribute to key projects within the TRAIL lab as well as develop their independent research skills, which can be tailored to individual strengths of the successful applicant. A main ongoing project in our lab is focused on improving inclusion and employment for people with disabilities (funded through a CIHR-SSHRC partnership grant). This position requires someone with experience in qualitative and/or quantitative research and effective writing skills.

Please note this position offers flexible work arrangement including a combination of in-person and remote work.

Key Responsibilities

Work closely with the principal investigator of the study and other team members

Contribute to data collection (e.g., organize recruitment, conduct interviews, focus groups, and/or survey data), data analysis, and KT activities

Contribute to writing peer-reviewed publications and funding applications

Mentor undergraduate, graduate students and lab volunteers as needed

Prepare summaries and presentations for multiple audiences and other knowledge translation activities

Liaise with clinicians, families and other project partners, team members and community partners

Participate in project and lab meetings

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Recent PhD in Sociology, Rehabilitation or Health Sciences, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Disability Studies, or related field

Experience with interviewing and qualitative analysis (NVIVO), preferred

Experience with systematic reviews, preferred

Advanced word processing skills (MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Endnotes), technical competencies, and ability to learn new software as needed

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to meet deadlines while ensuring the quality of the research

Ability to work independently and yet collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

Experience working with a variety of stakeholders to achieve shared goals

Excellent English writing and communication skills

Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills

Experience or interest in working with people with disabilities and/or social inclusion, preferred

Commitment to and support of the organizational mission and vision of the hospital and the TRAIL lab
