You will be joining us at an exciting time, as we move through an organisational re-design and into a regional structure, helping us better deliver an innovative Vision, a more flexible structure and a customer-centric approach to meet the new challenges of avoidance.
We have approximately 140 Advisory and Forensic Accountants within HMRC and by joining us you will be able to support HMRC’s drive to tackle avoidance, whilst making a positive difference to the nation’s finances. You will play an active role in high-profile issues and ultimately your work will touch the lives of everyone in the UK.
We are seeking to fill senior leadership roles in different Directorates.
The posts are as follows: Edinburgh x 2, Glasgow x1, Belfast x1, Newcastle x1, Leeds x2, Manchester x3, Liverpool x2, Nottingham x3, Stratford x1, Croydon x1.
For 14 of the posts, your work will principally support the following directorates:
1. Wealthy and Mid-sized Business Compliance / Individuals and Small Business Compliance, responsible for delivering operational compliance work nationwide across the full range of taxes and duties for businesses and individuals.
2. Counter-Avoidance, which leads in HMRC’s drive to tackle tax avoidance, combining operational and policy work on marketed avoidance.
3. Fraud Investigation Service directorate, responsible for both civil and criminal investigations in tackling the most serious tax evasion and fraud.
For 3 of the posts, your work will principally support Large Business directorate, which is responsible for over 2,000 of the largest businesses in the UK.
Please Note: 2 posts can be North West England (Liverpool or Manchester) and 1 in Nottingham.

Our Advisory Accountants enjoy the range of work they undertake utilising their commercial and technical knowledge and breadth of experience to understand and explain a wide range of transactions and issues. The team undertakes regular CPD and utilises this in sharing best practice both within the team and with customers.
As an Advisory Accountant you will give accounting advice which is objective, professional, clear and concise to include analysing relevant customer facts and financial information and challenging customer’s accounting, where appropriate. You will utilise the appropriate accounting frameworks, accounting standards and company law, and apply your commercial experience to identify risks and substantiate your advice. You will meet with customers and work with other specialists to form a view and assess the impact of the accounting treatment for tax.
You will support litigation, acting as an expert witness, case accountant or witness of fact and be proactive in assisting others involved in litigation. You will prepare and review professional reports with both factual and opinion evidence, attend case conferences, meetings and court acting with professionalism, integrity and independence.
A visible leader, within and outside HMRC, you will share knowledge, promote the work of the directorates and HMRC and develop and provide quality accountancy training to both accountancy colleagues and tax professionals.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant who has trained and spent a few years in the profession or industry. This could be in the public sector or private sector.
You will be joining a team who share their wealth of knowledge and breadth of experience and apply this to commercial situations, both from an advisory perspective and a commercial perspective. You will:

Full and complete qualification from, and continuing membership of, one of the following professional accounting bodies:
Strong financial accounting experience gained in either practice, industry, public sector or private sector and specifically including:

Benefits
Team members that are moving offices as a result of the Locations Programme will be entitled to a Moves Adjustment Payment for three years where they incur additional costs. This is calculated based on the difference between the costs of travelling to and from the new and old office, over a weekly period. You will get more detail on this as part of targeted locations move communications.
