About BigSis

BigSis is a fast-growing UK start-up that provides chemical-free insect control to farmers. Central to the BigSis business model is its innovative approach of automated individualised insect rearing and processing, which ensures that it can scale output reliably by replication.

BigSis is about to launch its first solution into the UK market and then aims to expand rapidly abroad as well as broaden its solution portfolio. This fast growth will be achieved through dilutive and non-dilutive financing. BigSis now requires a hands-on Financial Controller who can both handle day-to-day transactions and also plan for future requirements.

The role

The newly created position will report directly to the CEO, join the leadership team and will have overall responsibility for the financial management of the business. The role will also work with key operational areas including sales and production to support forecasting and budgeting activity.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Day-to-day responsibility for the company’s finances including processing transactions
• Preparing financial reports including income statements
• Establishing and monitoring internal controls
• Developing financial forecasts and plans
• Leading the budgeting process
• Evaluating and managing risk
• Coordinating the accounting, tax and audit processes
• Manage or support ad hoc corporate projects

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
• Hands-on experience managing the finances for a business
• Confident communicator with the ability to interact with senior management
• Strong leadership experience
• Strong Excel experience
• Proficiency in accounting software
• Analytical skills

Desirable

• Good knowledge of corporate law
• Understanding of the agriculture sector
• Experience of accounting across international territories
• Supported a business raising finance
