About The Role
Hippo Digital is recruiting Senior Java Developers to join our Hippo Herd. Senior Java Developers work in multi-disciplinary teams that build, support & maintain User-Centred digital solutions that offer real value and work for everyone.
Hippo’s Senior Java Developers are experts in their field. You will act as a Senior Consultant providing technical expertise in software engineering practices both internally and to our clients. You will be a leader, and have the ability to manage projects, maintain client relationships and be passionate about developing and upskilling others.
Your role in nutshell:

• Produce software for Hippo and our clients – front-end, back-end, platform, we do it all, but you don’t need to be an expert in it all
• Create web applications used by public and staff – this includes researching with members of the public to understand their needs
• Work within an agile, collaborative, multidisciplinary team
• Prototype new functionality within a cloud native environment
• Utilise the latest standards and approaches to solving problems
• Build great relationships with your team and stakeholders
• Work with the Hippo community to share best practice to ensure high standards

Skills and experience that you need

• Experience of the full development lifecycle delivering user-centred digital solutions with the ability to write complex code that’s clean, fast and scalable
• A skilled developer using core Java, CXF, Spring Boot, Jetty, Mustache, HTML, CSS & JavaScript
• Strong JavaScript library and framework experience – Node, React, Angular
• Extensive experience working within agile methods and using techniques such as Kanban and TDD
• Skilled in designing and building native and web applications, across a variety of scales and platform environments such as Mongo and Oracle Java 8
• Expertise in public cloud (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud) and DevOps
• Experience of Docker containerisation
• Capable of using a variety of software tools such as Terraform, Vault and Ansible
• CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, AWS CodeBuild, Azure DevOps and Atlassian
• A team player with strong collaborative skills
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills
• Able to articulate in both technical/non-technical terms depending on audience
• Previous experience of working on GOV/NHS projects would be highly desirable
