About The Role
Hippo Digital is recruiting Intermediate Software Engineers (Intermediate Consultants) to join our Hippo Herd. Intermediate Software Engineers work in multi-disciplinary teams that build, support & maintain User-Centred digital solutions that offer real value and work for everyone.

Hippo’s Intermediate Software Engineers play a pivotal part working in multi-disciplinary squads whilst developing their own skills to become experts in their field. As an Intermediate Software Engineer, you will provide expertise in software engineering practices both internally and to our clients. You will support projects in a collaborative manner, maintain client relationships and be passionate about your continuous professional development.

Your role in nutshell:

• Produce software for Hippo and our clients – front-end, back-end, platform, we do it all, but you don’t need to be an expert in it all
• Create web applications used by public and staff – this includes researching with members of the public to understand their needs
• Create secure, accessible services in a variety of frameworks and languages adhering to best practices and open standards.
• Work within an agile, collaborative, multidisciplinary team
• Develop software solutions in native cloud environments leveraging on services from the likes of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud (GCP)
• Create solutions following industry best practices and using techniques such as CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code.
• Utilise the latest standards and approaches to solving problems
• Build great relationships with your team and stakeholders
• Work with the Hippo community to share best practice to ensure high standards
• Take control and be passionate about your own professional development

Skills and experience that you need

• Strong software development skills with experience of the full development lifecycle developing user-centred digital solutions
• Skilled in developing software solutions using a variety of frameworks and across an array of different programming languages such as Java or Python with a willingness to learn others
• Experience of developing solutions in a Cloud/Serverless environment using AWS (including associated services), however other cloud platforms such as Azure or Google Cloud would be considered
• Infrastructure As Code experience – Cloudformation, Terraform or ARM or similar
• Passionate about producing re-useable, clean, concise code
• Containerisation experience – Docker or Kubernetes or similar
• Excellent team working, collaborative and communication skills
• Experience of working in an agile environment
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to think outside of the box
• Consultancy and/or .GOV sector experience would be highly desirable
