Hillview Healthcare Center is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing Services with a proven track record of personal accountability, assertiveness, integrity and teamwork. The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, characteristics and experience:
– A minimum of 2 years experience in a skilled nursing environment as a Director of Nursing Services with a proven track record of success with clinical competency and regulatory compliance.
– A seasoned leader with excellent communication skills and a “hands on” approach to education and training.
– A leader who is compassionate, knowledgeable and enjoys working with both short-term rehabilitation patients and long term care residents while leading a team of skilled clinical professionals in the persistent pursuit of compassionate and competent patient care.
– Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
– Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of California.
– Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
– Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
– Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept to promote a positive employee culture.
– Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
– Must possess the ability to deal professionally with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
– Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
– Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
– Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.
– Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle challenging resident needs.
– Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
– Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
– Must promote the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace.
The Director of Nursing Services job duties and expectations include but are not limited to the following:
– The Director of Nursing Services will plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of the Nursing Services Department in accordance with current federal, state, local and organization policies and guidelines. Collaborate daily with the Administrator regarding nursing operations and interdepartmental functionality and effectiveness.
– Develop, maintain, and periodically update written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department.
– Make written and oral s/recommendations to the Administrator, as necessary/required, concerning the operation of the nursing service department.
– Develop, implement, and maintain an ongoing quality assurance program for the nursing service department.
– Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, s, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
– Monitor the facility’s QI, QM, and survey s. Assist in developing plans of action to correct potential or identified problem areas.
– Develop methods for coordination of nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents’ total regimen of care.
– Serve on, participate in, and attend various committees of the facility as appointed by the Administrator.
– Delegate to nursing service supervisory personnel the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary to perform their assigned duties.
– Assist the HR Director in developing performance evaluation schedules, criteria, and annual reviews for the nursing service department (e.g., RNs, LVNs, CNAs, etc.).
– Make daily rounds of the nursing service department to ensure that all nursing service personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards.
– Ensure that Nursing Department accountability is upheld and promoted consistently, equitably and fairly as State, Federal, and Company regulation and policy require.
– Make rounds with physicians as necessary. Schedule physician visits as necessary.
– Review nurses’ notes to ensure that they are informative and descriptive of the nursing care being provided, that they reflect the resident’s response to the care, and that such care is provided in accordance with the resident’s wishes and clinical needs.
– Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure that medications are being administered as ordered and that treatments are provided as scheduled.
– Assist Director of Staff Development with planning, conducting, and scheduling of timely in-service training classes that provide instructions on proper resident care per established regulatory guidelines and regulations to ensure a well-educated nursing service department.
– Ensure that adequate supplies of personal protective equipment are on hand and are readily available to personnel who perform procedures that involve exposure to blood or body fluids or other infectious diseases.
– Monitor nursing care to ensure that all residents are treated fairly with kindness, dignity, and respect.
– Develop a written plan of care (preliminary and comprehensive) for each resident that identifies the problems/needs of the resident, indicates the care to be given, goals to be accomplished, and which professional service is responsible for each element of care.
