The Role – Research Analyst

We are seeking an exceptional Research Analyst with a passion for investing, coupled with the ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively both internally, and externally with clients and prospects. The candidate should be an ambitious, yet humble self-starter able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, with strong communication skills, a problem-solving analytical mindset and not afraid of responsibility. Our ideal candidate is coachable, has a willingness to learn, and consistently performs at a high level under variable workloads with a mix of high EQ/IQ that’s necessary in a rapidly growing company. The position provides a unique opportunity to support the portfolio manager and senior analyst in selecting individual securities for inclusion and the management of a discretionary equity portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Work with, and by mentored by, a leading portfolio manager on the discretionary management of assets for private clients.
• Primary responsibility will be to conduct research on existing and potential equity investments. This includes fundamental analysis, building and maintaining detailed financial models, analyzing performance of individual companies and industry sectors, valuation, and monitoring earnings calls and news reports for investment implications. We are seeking a generalist focused on US based large-cap / mid-cap equities.
• Regularly conduct portfolio attribution analysis, as well as the creation of tailored investment strategies. Assist the research team in ad hoc projects, composing briefs to communicate the team’s investment strategies to clients and prospects.
• Conduct research on special situations, such as private equity investments and third-party investment managers.
• Support all aspects of a leading private wealth management operation. Ability to wear multiple hats and be a genuine team player. Ideally, we seek someone looking to develop their skills as a money manager with the ability to think like an owner of the business.

The Person

The candidate should have strong professional verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to deliver high quality and critically objective output, possibly within tight timeframes. The position requires the willingness to work a flexible schedule, including select travel, and offers an attractive accelerated development path within the firm.

The ideal candidate will have experience and attributes in the following areas:

• Strong interpersonal skills and an innate ability to build immediate rapport with personnel and clients.
• Solid understanding of advisor needs; experience in delivering client-focused solutions.
• Demonstrable ability to communicate, present and influence key stakeholders at all levels of an organization, including executive and C-level.

Required Skills/Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business or Finance (CFA or on a path to CFA preferred)
• Investment management experience, preferably buy-side or sell-side equity research (minimum of 2 years required)
• Demonstrated analytical and flexible problem-solving skills
• Generalist capable of covering multiple sectors
• Energetic and team oriented individual to support a fast growing, top performing & elite advisory practice
• Excellent quantitative, verbal and written communication skills—must be able to provide a concise investment thesis tailored for a range of audiences (from portfolio manager to unsophisticated client)
• Passion for investing, with a strong desire to build a career in portfolio management.
• Team player with humility and ability to take constructive criticism.
• Experience with Bloomberg, Factset, Refinitiv, and Excel
• Securities representative licenses (Series 7 and 66 licenses), or willingness to achieve licenses within first 6 months.
