POSITON, PROGRAM, and ORGANIZATION INFO:
We’re looking for a licensed Teacher who will deliver educational instruction and services in a dynamic alternative education setting. The Teacher will provide holistic education opportunities to students, GED preparation, and college prep skills. Instruction will primarily be in language arts and social studies. This position will create and modify curriculum to meet individual needs through differentiated instruction. The ideal candidate must have demonstrated ability to engage young people from “at risk ” conditions in meaningful, interesting, and creative learning experiences. They must also have a sincere desire to assist young people to succeed, develop self-confidence and become effective community leaders and have familiarity with various challenges and issues faced by youth from low-income communities. The Teacher position will focus on strengthening students’ quantitative reasoning and scientific habits of mind, and on building student confidence with demonstrated commitment to processes. The ideal candidate will create course descriptions and standards statements in collaboration with other teachers and be able to integrate vocational themes, topics, project based learning, and/or skills as requested.
The Program Headquarters is just outside of Sisters, Oregon. Teachers may need to drive students to GED tests or, service projects, and may need to conduct classes on one of our construction worksites throughout the region. The position is supervised by the Program Director and is a larger part of a larger our YouthBuild program staff team of 12, including one other full-time and one other part-time teachers. Heart of Oregon Corps is a large regional non-profit that operates 6 youth training programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in curriculum/lesson planning and development, experience in or knowledge of developing individualized educational plans, experience in administration of assessment tools, and ability to team teach and work effectively as a part of a team in inter-disciplinary projects. The ideal candidate will implement attendance, discipline, classroom management, and program procedures consistently. A good sense of humor is also welcomed and desired! A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and teaching license is required. An Oregon State teaching license and endorsement in Language Arts and/or Social Studies at the high school level is preferred. Bilingual (Spanish) skills preferred.
Starting wage for the position is $19.75/hour. This is a full-time, year-round, hourly staff position, with employee health, dental and vision benefits paid 100% by the employer, 9 paid holidays, and 80 hours paid vacation and 40 hours paid sick time/year.
