Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Principal Highway Engineer, we’ll count on you to:

• Give your full commitment to HDR’s Values
• Take active leadership towards safety with other staff members
• Serve in a senior technical role on complex highway planning, design and design & construct projects
• Client liaison and relationship management
• Overseeing and undertaking the production of technical s and construction documents.
• Proficiency in design and documentation with comprehensive understanding of Australian and local standards
• Conducting technical reviews & verification of projects and contracts
• Preparing project s as required and liaise with clients and internal teams.
• Overseeing or undertaking project management tasks associated with projects including ing on job progress and work recording ensuring quality is maintained and technical risks are managed.
• Be a team player with ambition to learn, lead, develop and improve team members
• Contribute to building a strong, diverse organisation that embraces inclusion with respect and appreciation for the value we each bring to our clients and to HDR
• Coaching and mentoring other staff
• Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications And Skills

• Relevant tertiary qualification in civil engineering
• Accredited as a Registered Professional Engineer
• Eligible for Chartered membership of Engineers Australia
• 12+ years related or equivalent experience in Highways projects involving urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments and geometrical layouts
• Wider experience in grading, structures, pavements, drainage and utilities and layout of various site items is preferred
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, Excel and Word
• Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to work effectively within a culturally diverse and multi-disciplinary environment
• Highly motivated and self-directed
• Ability to work as part of a team, including resources from other offices
• Willingness to be accountable and responsible
• Strong attention to detail with an ability to work under pressure
