HAYS Hiring for Project Underground Geologist Job at Pilbara Full Time

Your new company

Operates an open pit gold mine with a newly-accessed underground orebody which will continue to feed their new processing plant with high grade gold. They are in the process of a 12-month underground development phase which will reduce the reliance on remnant stopes while extending the existing Resource. They will also commence underground exploration using seismic data.

Your new role

Reporting to the Senior Geologist on an 8:6 roster, you will be responsible for implementing thorough planning and management of all aspects of mine geology including grade control and near-mine exploratory drilling within defined areas.

Your duties will include:

• Ensure daily grade control requirements are met including drilling, ore mark-ups, mapping/sampling and the efficient extraction of ore.
• Ensure all reserve and stoping panels in the 13wk schedule are assessed for geological risk and mitigated with grade control activities.
• Create near-mine exploration targets utilising all data available
• Maintain a prioritised pipeline of targets and written detailed records of each target and progress to date.
• Schedule, plan and implement grade control, resource extension and exploratory drilling programs using diamond drilling methods.
• Liaise with Planning Engineers and Resource Geologist on ensuring drilling is appropriately sequenced to deliver grade control models on schedule
• Co-ordinate the underground drill sites for exploratory and grade control drilling programs and supervise drilling/mining contractors where applicable.
• Log near-mine exploration core, geotechnical and metallurgical diamond core to a consistent and high standard.
• Liaise with the Resources Geologist with regard to resources and reserves
• Assist the Senior Mine Geologist with ensuring accurate reconciliation of tonnages, grade and contained metal from the mine to the mill.
• Maintain the geological data filing/recording system and databases with the timely reporting of information as required.
• Utilise face/backs/wall mapping and diamond drillhole trace plots (cross-sections and plans) to interpret the geology for modelling.
• Undertake orebody, faults, lithology modelling as required by the Resource Geologist for block model updates.
• Document the controls on mineralisation in mapping, reports, drill justification documents and presentations to build a bank of quality historical data
• Deputise for the Senior Mine Geologist and Geology Superintendent in their absence as required.
• Train other staff and provide coaching via work audits.
• Actively participate in QAQC processes, laboratory audits, and ensure data validity and JORC compliant datasets.
• Ensure that all geological tasks are executed and achieved as per required procedures

What you’ll need to succeed

• Tertiary qualifications in geosciences
• Experience working in underground mine operations
• Adequate surface / underground production and drilling experience in Archaean Greenstone gold deposits.
• Exposure to contract mining environments
• Knowledge of Vulcan, Leapfrog, Deswik and Microsoft Office computing software.
• Sound geological interpretive and structural geology skills
• Ability to design effective drilling programs
• Familiarity with the mechanics of Diamond Drilling rigs
• Professional Membership to either AUSIMM or AIG highly regarded
