MAIB (Motor Accidents Insurance Board) is a Tasmanian Government Business Enterprise based in Launceston operating Tasmania’s compulsory third party personal injury motor accident insurance scheme. Hays are proud to be partnering with them on the recruitment of a newly created Deputy Chief Financial Officer role.

Your new role

Reporting to the CFO, this role will see you manage the accounting and taxation functions of the organisation including supervision and development of the Finance team. With oversight of the preparation of annual financial statements, monthly management reporting and compliance with all tax obligations, this varied position will see you play a vital role supporting the CFO and the Executive team. You will utilise your technical knowledge and skills to ensure compliance with all statutory reporting obligations, provide strategic financial advice, manage financial modelling and forecasting, together with assisting with the management and oversight of the investment portfolio. Additionally, you will identify, research and implement improvement strategies within the Finance Department’s systems and processes.

What you’ll need to succeed


The ideal applicant will be a CA or CPA qualified accounting professional, with management experience working in either a commercial organisation or in public practice. With exceptional technical knowledge and analytical skills, you will be a confident communicator who can lead staff and build strong working relationships with the Executive team, Board of Directors and other key internal/external stakeholders. With a pro-active approach and well-developed commercial acumen, you will be able to identify and implement process and system improvements which will improve efficiency and maintain a compliance focus. You will have a strong work ethic, a flexible approach and be keen to grow and develop your skills in an organisation committed to maximising the recovery of its clients.
