Assistant Accountant – Temporary to Permanent – Full Time

We are currently looking for an experienced finance/accounts officer to join the team for a local airline

Your new role

To provide support and assistance to the Financial Accounting Manager in all aspects of the accounting function as required.

As the assistant accountant, your responsibilities will be:

• Maintain monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
• Compilation of month end working papers and supporting documents.
• Review and process intercompany transactions.
• Preparation of monthly departmental reports.
• Maintain cashflow records including cash forecasts
• Compilation of passenger numbers to report to airports.
• Preparation and completion of monthly BAS statements.
• Maintain fixed assets register and depreciation/amortisation schedules.
• Manage the fortnightly processing of payroll for the Capiteq Group including: -.
• Collation of all-time records for the Capiteq Group of Companies, Entry of payroll data into Greentree accounting software, Calculation and preparation of termination pays, Presentation of payroll reports for final management approval, Creation of bank EFT file and transmission of pay transactions.
• Liaison with HR, managers and other authorised parties in relation to payroll issues.
• Calculation, reporting and remittance of payroll on-costs and deductions including PAYG withholding, union fees, superannuation, work-cover and payroll tax on a monthly and annual basis
• Preparation of all end of month payroll accruals and journals
• Maintenance and security of payroll and associated records and files, electronic and hard copy.
• Preparation, issue and lodgement of payment summaries and annual PAYG withholding reconciliation.
• Reconciliation of employee leave provisions.
• Process on-line internet banking for the Group including domestic and international EFTs, including
• accounts payable remittances, o payroll remittances, Inter-company transfers.
• Custodian of petty cash (AUD and USD)
• Ensure timely and accurate data-transfer from other software programs.
• Supervision of Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable functions
• Checking coding allocations on invoice/credit note entry batches, Assisting in identifying errors/overcharges and obtaining credits, Assisting in EOM process associated with Accounts Payable, including ensuring regular and complete reconciliation to supplier statements.
• Co-ordination of weekly and monthly payment runs.
• Undertaking Accounts Receivable functions
• Co-ordination of debtor reporting
• Debt collection
• Insurance records and claims maintenance

What you’ll need to succeed Ideally, you will have:

• Experience in an accounting role within a medium to large business
• Strong reconciliation to trial balance skills
• Ability to work independently and problem solve
• Payroll experience in a medium-large organisation and a computerised environment
• Understanding of various Awards and EBAs relevant to payroll, with an ability to interpret and apply provision appropriately
• Skills in calculation, reporting and reconciliation of payroll on-costs including Superannuation and Payroll tax.
• PAYG Withholding.
• Workers Compensation;
• Time management skills with ability to achieve deadlines.
• Communication skills
• Experienced user of Microsoft Office suite, with intermediate (or higher) knowledge of Excel / Outlook functionality
• Attention to detail
