Hays is proud to partner with the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) in preparation for the next Federal Election. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic candidate with accounting and finance experience to join a busy and fast paced environment.

Your new role

The purpose of the APS3 Finance Officer role is to perform a range of administration, project and operational support duties. Working across a larger team, you will be responsible for a rage of accounting and finance duties.

Position Duties:

• Undertaking reconciliations, investigations, month end reporting, accruals, and general journals
• Supporting our Qld and NT network with queries and other requests
• Manage small, non-complex projects in relation to election activities
• Identify and report issues, take appropriate action, including escalation of emerging issues
• Editing/proofing documentation
• Ensure adherence to quality and compliance standards for electoral projects or activities and escalate relevant issues to the Senior Project officers
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders
• Financial activities including credit card maintenance, bill payment etc.
• Engage in simple procurement activities
• Prepare internal and external communications
• Assist with scheduling staff
• Perform tasks in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and AEC policies and guidelines
• Other duties as directed by AEC staff

What you’ll need to succeed

• Have accounting and finance skills
• Works independently with a high level of accuracy, seeks feedback
• Identifies and analyses risks, implements solutions and improvements, escalates when required
• Demonstrates sound judgement and ability to make informed decisions
• Responds positively to change, is adaptable and willing to be flexible
• Demonstrated personal integrity and professionalism
• Previous experience in administration, finance, procurement or similar
• Knowledge and experiencing using Microsoft Office and other computer based applications
