Havenwyck Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented Teacher to join our team of compassionate, dedicated professionals.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Teacher of the Residential Treatment Center provides educational services to patients under the direction of the Director of Residential Services. The Teacher is a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

• Participates as an integral professional member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
• Develops programs of educational value to the student in accordance with their intellectual and educational abilities.
• Differentiates instruction within the classroom.
• Instructs and guides students during school sessions.
• Studies, evaluates, and reports on each student’s progress for evaluation by the treatment team.
• Maintains progress notes in clinical charts.
• Suggests educational placement after discharge.
• Develops discharge plan.
• Attends treatment team conferences, as scheduled.
• Effectively utilizes techniques of classroom behavior management.
• Utilizes the principle of a trauma-informed model within the classroom.
• Completes educational assessment on residents and expands on identified problem areas.
• Completes education plan based on problems identified in assessment.
• Attends unit staff meetings, participates in staff development programs.
• Turns in weekly lesson plans.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree with certification to teach at elementary or secondary level.
• Current Certification in State of Michigan as a Certified Teacher.
• Two years of previous teaching experience, preferred.
• Experience in treating Impulse Disorder population, preferred (On Impulse Disorder Unit)
• Special Education Certificate is strongly preferred
