Gymshark Hiring for Software Engineering Placement Job at Solihull, England Full Time

A brand-new programme to Gymshark, the Frontend Engineering placement will work across the Engineering function, which is at the forefront of all we deliver digitally to our passionate community.

With so much importance on our frontend, user experience is everything and so, right across the Tech team, we strive to deliver the best, most consistent Digital Product experience. In many cases, our website is the single source of truth not only for purchases, but to protect Gymshark’s brand strength.

Our 13-month program will cover multiple disciplines across several rotations, spanning the breadth of the Software Development Lifecycle. Our intention is that the successful applicant completes their time with us, with a much broader knowledge of how to apply their skills across several disciplines within cross-functional teams. This not only gives them a realistic window into an Agile team in one of the fastest-growing companies in the UK, but it also allows them a rare opportunity to ‘test the water’ across a variety of frontend disciplines before entering the full-time tech workforce.

Location: Solihull, UK

Assessment Centre Date: 15th December (at Gymshark HQ, Solihull)

What you’ll learn

You will:

• Improve your overall confidence across frontend web technologies to full-time junior frontend engineer expectations
• Gain a solid understanding of end-to-end design process within a cross-functional team
• Understand how to operate in a live agile (Scrum and Kanban) environment
• Understand how project goals are constructed and delivered and how their skills can support its delivery
• Develop an understanding of various technologies (AWS, Kubernetes, etc.) for frontend and how to work within them
• Develop a basic understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and how to use it
• Develop confidence to use native elements and API’s

What you’ll need

We’re not about box-ticking, a placement year is about developing you. To be successful for a placement at Gymshark, you will:

• Be able to manage and prioritise your time effectively

To be successful for a software engineering placement with us, you will have:

• A sound knowledge of JavaScript, HTML and CSS languages
• Some knowledge of mobile languages (e.g. Jetpack Compose and Swift) would be useful
• Previous experience building websites from scratch (personal or academic)
• Knowledge of Agile principles with an understanding of ceremony structure (experience working in Scrum or Kanban is desirable)
• A technical, analytical mindset; capable of contributing to scoping discussions
• A fail-fast, fail-smart approach to work, with a humility to regularly seek feedback and ask for help to clarify understanding
