The town of Gympie is central to the Gympie region, two hours north of Brisbane and in close proximity to the Sunshine and Fraser Coasts. Council offices are located in Gympie’s town centre close to shopping, cafes and parking.

Officer Finance Management Accounting (fixed term)

Remuneration: Annual salary commencing at $70,118 (pro rata) plus superannuation

Job Description

Gympie Regional Council currently have a exciting opportunity for a qualified professional to join our Finance team for a 6 month period.

This position is to support the Accounting Services Section in timely delivery of financial obligations for Council including reporting for management, statutory and grant acquittals purposes.

The key responsibilities of this role include (but are not limited to):

• Provide assistance during end of month and end of financial year accounting requirements including processing of journals and reconciliations of general ledger accounts and sub ledgers.
• Provide assistance in the preparation of budgets and regular financial management reports (monthly, quarterly, annually)
• Assist with the preparation of regular (monthly, quarterly, annually) financial analysis of operational and capital financial performance with Responsible Managers, including underlying variance explanations in a timely fashion.
• Provide assistance in preparation of statutory reports including Australian Taxation Officer, Business Activity Reporting, Fringe Benefit Tax Reporting, Payroll Tax reports and other statutory obligations.
• Provide assistance in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual grant and subsidy program reporting requirements for internal and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to system improvement initiatives within the Finance and Risk Branch and across Council, including improving financial literacy and capacity of staff.

What we are looking for?

To be successful in this role, applicants should have:

• Demonstrated experience with computerised financial systems.
• Demonstrated computer literacy, in particular with Microsoft Excel and Word, demonstrated verbal and written communication skills to facilitate effective and efficient customer service.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, yet successfully work as part of an integrated team.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively to a time management plan to achieve work goals and meet deadlines.
