Job summary
The Finance Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the business’s accounts, cash flows, purchasing and banking.
The role also entails the effective management of the invoice factoring system, making critical decision based on knowledge of current orders and using the system to maximise cash flow.
Further to this, the Finance Manager will work both with the invoice factoring company and independently to ensure that the reasonable amount of credit is prearranged with new account customers before their order is placed.
The Finance Manager will be responsible for correctly collating and storing data relating to the business’s financial affairs, including full management of the Sage Business Cloud Accounting system.
The applicant must be fully competent in using and managing Sage Business Cloud Accounting. The Finance Manager will be expected to analyse this data, and to suggest improvements and targets on expenditure using the data. The role requires clear communication with the managers at all times, as this is a fast-paced environment where decisions need to be made quickly, and data needs to be readily available. Cash flow documents needs to be prepared on a regular basis and need to be shared with directors to maintain the high level of communication that is required.
The Finance Manager will also be required to prepare for statutory documents in advance, including preparing VAT returns and informing the directors of VAT deadlines and implementing this in to the cash flow, preparing CIS documents and deducting CIS deductions from PAYE/NIC payments accordingly, and preparing successfully for the business’s year end, ensuring that all purchase invoices and receipts have been collected and stored, notifying the directors well in advance of what the corporation tax liability is likely to be based on the trajectory of the final months and making the according critical decisions.
In addition to the above, the role also requires good knowledge of the local enterprise partnerships and government grant offerings. The Finance Manager will be expected to present any actionable and prosperous grant opportunities to the business, where they feel it will make a significant contribution to business outputs and objectives. Furthermore, the applicant will also need to collect information relating to the research and development that the business conducts, and work both independently and with third parties to assemble a research and development claim.
Job responsibilities
· Day-to-day management of Sage Business Cloud Accounting.
· Preparation and presentation of detailed cash flow analysis papers.
· Actively researching and applying for relevant and effective grants, including grants for capital equipment, grants from HMRC and the Government, and Local Enterprise Partnerships.
· Use data collected in Sage to make informed decisions regarding purchasing.
· Run weekly payroll using Sage Cloud Payroll system, checking the system has calculated PAYE, NIC and other deductions correctly.
· Set targets and plans to critically reduce spending in areas deemed too high.
· Build relationships with account customers, chase overdue payments and use the invoice factoring facility correctly.
· Stay up to date with technological advances and accounting software to be used for financial purposes.
· Understand and adhere to financial regulations and legislation.
· Managing safe payment compliance and adhering to GDPR (and equivalent) legislation.
Job requirements
· Accountancy or finance related degree (or equivalent).
· Proficient and knowledgeable on Sage Business Cloud Accounting & Sage Business Cloud Payroll.
· Experience in successfully applying for grant funding, and project managing the grant.
· Experience in the GRP industry is desired.
· Proven communication skills and clear track record of meeting targets.
· Critical analytical skills.
· Exceptional attention to detail.
· Knowledge of safe payments and GDPR (and equivalent) legislation compliance.
· Ability to work independently.
